Papeete is the capital of French Polynesia, the main transport hub of the islands and the best place to start exploring the archipelago. There are several interesting museums, the most popular being the Museum of Tahiti and Other Islands with its comprehensive collection of cultural artifacts. The Gauguin Museum traces the life and works of the French painter who made French Polynesia home. Another sight is the Tahiti Perles Centre features the rare and lovely Pinctada Margaritifera, the Tahitian black pearl. One of the most popular beaches is Bain Lot. There are also hiking excursions to the interior of Tahiti and day trips to outer islands.

Australia

The only country that has a whole continent to itself, Australia is a major tourist destination. World famous for its natural wonders and wide open spaces (beaches, deserts and "the Outback"), Australia is ironically one of the world's most highly urbanised countries and is well known for the cosmopolitan cities, such as Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Each state has its own national parks with their specific. If you're interested in the miracles of water-world, don't miss the Great Barrier Reef. The Wet Tropics of Queensland comprise dense rainforests and foaming waterfalls. Rare species of animals can be seen in the famous Kakadu National Park as well as ancient aboriginal art.

French Polynesia

French Polynesia consists of five archipelagoes spread over an expanse of the South Pacific approximately the size of Western Europe (2,000,000 square miles). The region includes the Marquesas, the Tuamotus, the Society Islands, with Tahiti and Bora Bora as the best known islands, the Australs and the Gambiers. Each of these archipelagoes has its own culture and climate; all of them are unique travel destinations with beaches of unrivaled beauty, many activities and a very friendly people. The legendary paintings of Gauguin have been inspired by French Polynesia's turquoise lagoons, volcanic peaks, lush valleys and white-sand beaches.
