3 nights in Bocas del Toro

This beautiful Caribbean archipelago lies 300 miles northwest of Panama City, and boasts fine white sand beaches, excellent coral reef structurs, nearby jungle rainforests, and a welcoming environment for visitors. Boca Del Toro Town "Bocas Town" features colorful Caribbean, Georian, and Victorian architecture, a host of restaurants, hotels, and shops, and serves as a hub for the other islands, beaches, dive spots, and jungle rainforests that are the main attractions to this area.

Bocas Del Toro is a perfect destination for underwater enthusiasts, and those wanting tp leave the beaten path, and return to a more peaceful and tranquil era. It is also home to the Bastimentos National Park, Panama's first marine reserve and a habitat for abundant bird, reptile, and aquatic species in the coral reefs, mangrove extensions and beaches. There are also still bastions of indigineous Ngwobe communitiesin this area scattered on the island keys, where they still support their lifestyles with fishing and simple agriculture.

2 nights in Soberania National Park

Only 20 minutes from Panama City, the Soberania National Park encompasses more 55,000 acres of tropical forest on the banks of the Panama Canal. The preserve was established in 1980 and provides a rich habitat for more than 1300 plants, 525 species of birds including the Black Hawk-eagle, yellow-eared toucanets, crimson-bellied woodpeckers, and sirystes; 105 species of mammals including white-faced capuchin monkeys, tamarins, two and three-toed sloths, agoutis, and a number of endangered.

The park is a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts, and 1985 held the world record for avian species identified in a 24 hour period. On a historic note, the Camino de Cruces which runs through the park was used by the Spanish conquistadors to transport gold and other cargo from Peru to Spain, so even long before the Canal was built this area was an important thoroughfare for international commerce.

The proximity of Soberania Park to civilization that is simply astounding, considering the preponderance of wildlife thrives here. A walk on one of the Park?s well marked trails can offer views of sloths, and kinkajous in the morning, with plenty of time for lunch in a trendy Panama City restaurant for lunch.
