How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The Adelaide International Airport is located 4 miles from the city center. The airport serves international and domestic flights and is close to popular tourist beaches at Glenelg and Henley Beach. The airport offers multiple transportation options, including buses, taxis and rental cars to connect travelers to the city.

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have a few options including taxis, motorbike taxis, buses and rental cars to get you to the city center.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

The Adelaide Metro travels to/from Adelaide Airport into the city, the service offers a double-decker express bus called JetExpress. Jetbus services are also offered to Glenelg, West Beach, and the city center. Tickets are purchased from the bus driver and the bus stops are located on the left-hand side of the plaza as you exit the terminal.

There is a city shuttle bus that operates Monday - Friday from 6:30 am until 7:30 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30 am until 5:30 pm. The shuttle offers door to door service from the airport to hotels in the city and does not have to be pre-booked. Visit the Tourism Bookings counter located on the ground floor of the terminal opposite the escalators. The cost is $10 per person.

Taxis are available at the airport and can be found at the designated taxi rank located to the left of the pedestrian plaza outside of the terminal. The cost of a taxi ride to the city costs around $30 during peak hours, and $20 at other times, there is a $3 fee added to all taxis leaving the airport. The ride to the city takes around 15 minutes.

Uber is also available at the airport and can be found at their designated pick up facility which is to the left of the short term parking lot as you exit the terminal. Walk across the pedestrian plaza and cross at the pedestrian lights.

There are several internationally known car rental companies found at the airport including Avis, Hetz, Thrifty, Budget, and Europcar. The car rental area can be found on the ground level opposite the terminal.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

Adelaide`s most popular form of public transportation is the Adelaide Metro bus and train system along with the Glenelg Tram.

The city offers free buses (98A, 98C, 99A, 99C), which runs a loop in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions seven days a week. The 99A/C buses do not operate on weekends, they run weekdays from 8:15 am until 7:45 pm every 30 minutes. The 98A/C buses run from 6:45 am until 10:15 pm daily every 30 minutes, every 15-30 minutes, with reduced times on the weekends and during the holidays.

The City Loop (99C) Bus is free and runs weekdays from 7:40 am until 6 pm with a frequency every 15 minutes. It runs on Friday nights from 6 pm until 9:20 pm every 30 minutes, Saturdays from 8 am until 5 pm and Sundays from 10 am until 5 pm every 30 minutes. The routes are clockwise and anticlockwise with around 30 stops.

A single ticket cost for the buses that are not free in the city costs about $5.10 for adults or $9.70 for a day pass, there are Metrocard`s available for purchase too which provide a discounted rate on rides. A $25 three day consecutive pass is available for purchase and can be used on the public buses, trains, and trams. Tickets can be purchased on board, at train stations and in delis and newsagents throughout the city.

The trains in Adelaide are a great way to get to attractions that are located outside of the city, the rail network runs from the Adelaide Railway Station. Passengers can catch the Outer Harbor line train to get to historic Port Adelaide and the beachside suburb of Semaphore, the trains depart every 20-30 minutes from 6 am until midnight.

Metro trains can be taken to reach Belair, Tonsley and Salisbury with nine lines that stop at multiple stations. A single trip ticket costs around $3.40 to $5.30 per person, timetables vary by line and most trains operate daily every 30-60 minutes from 5 am until 11:15 pm.

Trams in Adelaide provide travelers with a useful service that operates through the city center and reaches the inner suburbs. The trams run from Moseley Sq in Glenelg, through Victoria Sq in the city and along North Tce to the Adelaide Entertainment Center. The trams run every 10 minutes from 6 am until midnight daily and the tram is free to use within the city center (South Tce, Adelaide Entertainment Center and along Glenelg`s Jetty Rd). Trams depart every 15 minutes from 5 am until 12:15 am daily and a single ticket costs between $3.40 - $5.30.

How do I call/hail a taxi?

Taxis in Adelaide are readily available and found all over the city center, at the airport, outside the stations, hailed from the streets and found outside major tourist attractions. All taxis are metered with two tariffs, one during the week (M-F) and the second on the weekends. The base rate for taxis in Adelaide is AU$3.50, plus and extra AU$4 per mile and the price increases from 7 pm to 6 am. There are supervised taxi ranks staffed by the Taxi Council at night and on the weekends with lights, supervision and security officers operating 11 pm - 3 am on Fridays, and 11 pm - 5 am on Saturdays. Several reputable companies run in the city including Adelaide Independent Taxis, Adelaide Transport, Suburban Taxis, Yellow Cabs, and Access cabs.

Is Adelaide a walking city?

Adelaide`s city center is pretty flat and compact allowing for visitors to easily explore on foot. Many of the cities main tourist attractions are centered around the CBD where North Terrace and Victoria Square are found. The gorgeous wide tree-lined boulevards of North Terrace area where the city`s cultural institutions are located in the most beautiful architectural buildings house places like the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum. The Rundle Mall is pedestrianized and the Adelaide Central Market which are both great places to walk around, shop and enjoy delicious food.

Can I ride a bike in Adelaide?

The city of Adelaide offers an interesting program called the Adelaide City Bikes Scheme. Bikes are free to hire from 9 am until 4:30 pm from the Bike SA Office on Franklin St with bikes available from over 10 locations across the city. The bikes must be returned M-F before 4:30 pm and 5 pm on the weekends. The Mike Turtur Bikeway runs from the heart of the city center to Glenelg Beach. This popular bike ride takes you along the River Torrens out to West Beach and then down to Glenelg and back. The surrounding wine regions around Adelaide are the host of the Tour Down Under, the largest cycling race in the Southern Hemisphere.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

Adelaide is a great shopping destination. The city is filled with quirky shops and a host of cultural, arts and food festivals throughout the year. Adelaide has an interesting flare with malls, markets and quaint boutiques that are worth exploring.

The Rundle Mall is a popular place to visit, a pedestrian-friendly strip mall filled with over 700 retailers and department stores. The old arcades here retain their original splendor and date back to the 19th century with Victorian stonework and architecture. The buildings now house quaint little shops, boutiques, and retro clothing stores along with supermarkets and cafes with outdoor seating.

Rundle Street is set in the heart of the trendy East End District of Adelaide and is well worth exploring. The happening boulevard is brimming with specialty shops, international name brands and Australian designers like Gorman Zimmermann, Sass & Bide, Leonard St, and M.J.Bale. The restaurants, cafes, and pubs here offer delicious food and beverages in a laid back setting.

Rundle Street is the heart of the trendy East End District. There is more happening on this one boulevard than in so many cities themselves! Where can I go to the beach in Adelaide?

Visit the bustling beachside suburb of Glenelg, you can catch the tram right from Rundle Mall. The seaside location features heritage hotels, quaint cafes with alfresco seating and a white sandy beach. Semaphore is another beachside community located 9 miles south of the city featuring a busy esplanade with fish and chip shops and sheltered waters perfect for swimming. There is a historic carousel here with 40 handcrafted wooden horses that the kids will love.

What is the best time to visit Adelaide?

The city of Adelaide enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers, and cool, mild winters. Adelaide is Australia`s driest capital city, the most rainfall is seen in the month of June. The average summertime temperatures are 84 degrees, but there are several days where the highs can reach up to 100 + degrees. The winter months average maximum daytime temperatures of 60 degrees and lows around 46, frost can be common in the Adelaide Hills and hail is common in the winter.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The Australian dollar (AU$) is the official currency of Australia. Cash can be exchanged at many local banks, hotels and the airport. ATMs are widespread in the city but may be limited in more remote towns and the Outback.

What is the food like?

Adelaide is a `Foodie` haven filled with gastronomic delights spread throughout funky pubs, cafes, restaurants, bars, and markets in the city. Festival season is during February and March when the Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide, and the Adelaide Fringe festivals take place featuring world-class entertainment, music, dance, theatre and visual arts. Many of the festivals last 3 or 4 days and offer great food, drinks, entertainment, and a great atmosphere.

What is the nightlife like?

The main streets in the city center of Adelaide are filled with an abundance of great restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs, many hidden in the laneways and side streets. The hottest bar in Adelaide, Proof is found on Anster Street, Bank Street Social is the place to visit for locally brewed craft beers, La Moka for a tasty espresso martini and Clever Little Tailor for whiskey tasting. The Rhino Room found on Pirie Street is the city`s long-running comedy club. The city offers a thriving bar scene, there are some great pubs found on Rundle Street, Hindley Street is the red light district of the city with hip bars and nightclubs on Leigh and Peel Street are where the action is on the weekends.
