Day 1 in Amalfi Town
Welcome to Amalfi, the heart of the magnificent Italian coastline and a must-see
town on your Amalfi Coast adventure.
Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to
purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as
you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet
lag! There is so much for you to experience!
Amalfi was a town which was a trading
superpower in the medieval age. It is much smaller these days, due to an
earthquake that took place in 1343, which caused most of the city to slide into
the sea. Some things still remain - Amalfi possesses the absolute must-visit sight
of the Duomo (church), the towering cathedral which dominates the main piazza of the town.
For a small fee, you can enter and see
Roman sarcophagi in the
cloisters, beautiful religious artifacts in the treasury, and the
remains of a saint in the cathedral itself. It`s a wonderful building, a nice break
from the bustle of the Amalfi Coast`s crowds.
Next, spend some time getting
acquainted with the town by strolling the streets, walking along the marina
where the mega-yachts dock in summer time and sipping on cappuccino and enjoying
a sweet treats. Amalfi is one of the bigger towns on the Amalfi coast. It has several
beautiful squares all connected by pedestrian streets full of quaint restaurants
and cafes, as well as charming boutiques along the way.
Finish your day with dinner down by
the main beach front of Amalfi, here you`ll find some delicious restaurants
that offer local seafood, as well as many traditional pasta dishes Italy and
the Amalfi coast are renowned for.
Day 2 in the Amalfi Coast
Start you day off today by heading to
the mountaintop town of Ravello.
Visit the gardens of Villa
Rufolo and prepare yourself for one of the best views on the
entire Amalfi Coast. Head straight through the gardens until you reach the
terrace and take in the beauty of blue skis meeting blue seas, while the towns
of the coast tumble down the mountainsides.
Afterward make your way to the
beautiful town of Sorrento,
it`s a gorgeous place where you can find a more authentic Italian way of life. Scenic streets with their small shops
and gelato parlors make Sorrento an ideal destination to explore Amalfi Coast`s
way of life.
Must-see
locations in Sorrento include the Church
of St. Francesco, which has a beautiful cloister area attached to
the side of the church, the stunning views across the bay to Naples and
Vesuvius, as well as the otherworldly ruined mill at the Vallone dei Mulini. But
Sorrento`s simple pleasures are the best: do some people-watching at Piazza Tasso, or stock up on
lemon-flavored treats in the shopping streets to the west of the piazza.
Furthermore,
Sorrento has two gorgeous ports full of fishing and sailing
boats and a series of public parks. And if you`re interested in history, the
town also features the Correale Museum and the Museo
della Tarsia Lignea, both of which offer some captivating artifacts
and displays.
Another fantastic way to
explore the Amalfi Coast is by taking a full-day Boat Excursion and sightseeing tour taking in
all the Amalfi Coast villages, including many of these towns (Ravello,
Positano, Atrani, Priaino, Mairori and Minori). Many of these tours also visit
the grottos in Capri and Amalfi, you can go swimming right from the boat.
Departures are from Amalfi, Maiori and Minori.
Day 3 in the Amalfi Coast
On your
third and last day on the Amalfi Coast, spoil yourself with a trip to one of
the world`s most glamorous locations, Capri island. It`s another location you must include in
your Amalfi Coast itinerary, it`s truly a magical place!
Capri is a
jewel of an island in a turquoise-blue sea. It sits off of the western edge of
the Amalfi Coast and can be reached via ferries from several of the coastal
towns. As beautiful as it is, it does come with a price tag, an area where you
can do some serious damage to your bank account in the designer-laden shops. However,
the finest sights on this island cost next to nothing…nature! A less expensive
way to explore is by taking in the natural beauty on some of the glorious
hiking trails this island has to offer. Walk through Capri Town, and navigate
your way to the Giardini di
Augusto.
Also
consider taking an organized trip to see the famous Blue Cave Grotto, a cave
located just off the sea, where the water turns a vibrant, luminous blue. This
cave complex is absolutely beautiful! Also popular are boat tours around the
entirety of the island`s coast, a highlight being the Faraglioni rocks, where your
boat passes through a natural tunnel at the base of the towering rocks. Note:
Tours can be arranged at the Marina with various local companies, or to avoid
any disappointment, we recommend booking a tour in advance.
Stay here
into the evening where Capri becomes high energy. The main square has several
bustling bars and a vibrant energetic nightlife.
Additional Days in the Amalfi Coast
Should you be able to spend additional
days in the Amalfi Coast we recommend exploring the Valle delle
Ferriere, a real surprise that you would not expect to find at a
seaside destination. After an hour and 30 minute hike you will find yourself in
a tropical natural oasis surrounded by flowing streams which generates a
powerful waterfall down a canyon that runs almost 2 miles in length. The Valle
delle Ferrier is an important part of Amalfi`s history.
Alternatively,
spend some time exploring Pompeii,
it is probably the closest you`ll ever get to traveling back in time, as you
walk over the same cobblestones and enter the same temples and amphitheaters as
the ancient Romans did. The Roman town of Pompeii was destroyed in 79AD when
the nearby volcano of Vesuvius erupted, causing a chain of events so
destructive that they wiped out the town`s population and buried it under a
thick layer of solidified ash.
Your Last Day in Amalfi
Depart your hotel for the airport for your return home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer, if so a representative will meet you at the hotel in time to take you to the airport for your flight out. Savor the memories of a very special time in Amalfi and the charming towns of the Amalfi Coast.
