Gaithersburg, located on Interstate 270 between Washington, D.C. and Frederick, is one of the largest cities in Maryland and is home to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which sits right in the middle of the city next to the interstate. The Olde Towne neighborhood, the oldest part of the city, is located to the east of the interstate. Kentlands and the Washingtonian Center, areas known for shopping, restaurants, and recreation, are in the southern part of the city.
