Skaneateles, from the Iroquois meaning `long lake`, is a village on Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes of New York. Located 30 minutes southwest of Syracuse, Skaneateles was once the playground of the titans of industry and multimillionaires. It was also the first of the Finger Lakes villages to welcome tourists, two centuries ago. You can learn about this town`s long history by strolling the historic district, almost entirely dating from the first half of the 19th century.
