Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware, located where the Christina and Brandywine rivers merge to flow into the Delaware River. It was originally settled by the Swedish in 1638, the country`s first colony in North America. The Swedes built Fort Christina north of what is now Wilmington, and the area is now a National Historic Landmark. The Kalmar Nyckel, the ship that carried the Swedish pilgrims in 1638, is located along the Wilmington Riverfront.
