Missouri ("The Gateway to the West" or The Show-Me State) is a state full of delightful experiences for the traveler. On each end of the state are its two largest cities: Kansas City in the west and St. Louis in the east. They are known for their contributions to music, food and drink, and culture. It isn't a Missouri vacation without some Kansas City barbecue or St. Louis blues! The interior of the state features beautiful lakes such as Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake, rolling hills, dramatic cliff faces, and even underground caves!
The Santa Fe Trail was one of the most important pioneer trails in the United States` westward expansion period. Experience the Old West along one of the most beautiful stretches of plains, grassland, mountains, and deserts in the world.
The United States boasts 62 protected National Parks spread throughout 29 states covering approximately 52.2 million acres of land. To be classed as a National Park these natural areas must provide an outstanding region of beauty, an unusual ecosystem, or a plethora of recreational activities.
The Great River Road takes adventure-seekers on the open road as it parallels the Mississippi River. The Great River Road in Illinois National Scenic Byway clocks in at 550 miles, passing through East Dubuque, Galena, and Fulton, with Dubuque, Bellevue, and Clinton on the Iowa side.
The Eastern portion of Route 66 takes you through the Midwest, starting in Chicago and meandering through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
The Great River Road takes adventure-seekers on the open road as it parallels the Mississippi River, through Nauvoo, Quincy, and Alton, Illinois, and Hannibal, Ashburn, Louisiana and Clarksville directly opposite on the Missouri side.
The breathtaking Ozarks cover much of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and are a treat for the traveler, especially as they travel up into the mountains from the Arkansas and Missouri River Valleys.
