Morro Bay is known for Morro Rock, an ancient volcanic mound at the end of Morro Rock Beach. The rock sits within Morro Bay State Park, home to lagoons, trails and a bird-rich saltwater marsh. It is a coastal city and one of its main features is the State Park`s Museum of Natural History that features exhibits on ecology and local Native American culture. Hikers enjoy the trails leading up Black Hill for scenic views over the city and Morro Bay. Landlubbers can hike the area`s many trails or simply explore the Embarcadero, a waterfront street with shops and restaurants.
