Bellingham, WA
Bellingham, an hour and a half north of Seattle, is the northernmost major city in the state of Washington. It is popular with visitors as a gateway city to a number of nearby tourist areas, such as the San Juan Islands, the North Cascades National Park, Vancouver and the rest of British Columbia (via Interstate 5 which becomes Highway 99), and Alaska, as Bellingham is a major fishing and ferry port. Its legacy, still in force to a degree, is as a thriving lumber and paper-mill town and seaport for outbound forest products.
