Day 1 on Brac Island

Welcome to Croatia! Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel, a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Otherwise, make your way to Brac Island and arrive at your hotel. Check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!

On the first day we recommend you get acquainted with the sights of the largest town on Brac Island, Supetar. The Church of St. Peter in the center of town is home to early Christian art, namely mosaics from the sixth century CE. Walk the waterfront (called Porat) and head west up the coast about 0.6 miles. You will walk past the two popular beaches in town, Tri Mosta Beach and then Punta Beach. After Punta Beach, you will see an offbeat Brac Island landmark: the expansive Petrinovic Mausoleum, built in the 1920s. Also on the site you will find the ruins of a 6th century Roman house, the Villa Rustica.

If you have some time before sunset, enjoy the sun and sand at the two beaches you passed by on the way to the mausoleum. Tri Mosta Beach is more popular with locals, and there is a bar located right on the beach. You`ll find a lot of restaurants and cafés marina-side along the waterfront (Porat) if you are looking for a place to eat for dinner. Return to your accommodations at the end of the day.

Day 2 on Brac Island

In the morning, have an early breakfast in Supetar before heading four miles south to the town of Nerezisca, one of the oldest settlements on Brac Island and the capital before Supetar. Spend thirty minutes to an hour wandering the streets of this Dalmatian village. If you would like to take a little side journey while in the area, travel six miles to the southwest and visit UNESCO World Heritage Site nominee Blaca Hermitage, a Glagolitic monastery which was built into a cliffside and housed an order from 1551 until 1963.

The drive from Nerezisca to the town of Bol is about fifteen miles in length, and winds through such towns as Praznica and Gornji Humac. The road into Bol winds around the city and leads to a roundabout: heading straight on will take you to perhaps the most famous beach in the Croatian islands, Zlatni Rat (the Golden Cape). This beach is particularly popular on weekends in summer, so feel free to bypass Nerezisca if you want to snag a spot on the coveted pebbles (not sand!). Taking the first left turn will lead you back into Bol. Be sure to take some time to stroll the waterfront (Riva) and have some lunch in town. If you are interested in hiking while on Brac Island, there is a 7-mile roundtrip hike you can take that leads you from Bol up to the top of Vidova Gora. At 2,552 feet, it is the tallest mountain in the Croatian islands, and offers great views of Bol, Zlatni Rat, and other parts of Brac Island. Return to your accommodations at the end of the day.

Additional Days on Brac Island

If you have extra days, consider exploring Brac Island`s northern coast. Four miles to the west of Supetar, and just eight miles off the coast of Split, is the town of Sutivan. Sutivan has been settled since the time of Diocletian, and a number of ancient ruins still exist, such as the fifth-century basilica built on the site of what is now the Church of St. John. Then, 2.5 and 3.5 miles east of Supetar, respectively, are the towns of Splitska and Postira. Also settled since the time of Diocletian, Splitska was the port where the Brac stone used to build Diocletian`s Palace was loaded and shipped to Split. Today the small village is known for its picturesque waterfront and its verdant flora. Then, further east, there is Postira, a traditional Dalmatian village that is noted for its Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

Your Last Day on Brac Island

Depart your hotel and head to your next destination, whether it is another island in the Adriatic or a town on the Dalmatian mainland. If this is the final stop on your trip, head to the airport and return home. We hope you enjoyed the sights of Brac Island!
