How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The main airport servicing the beach resort town of Broome is Broome International Airport located 0.46 miles west of the city center. Broome is the gateway to the Kimberly region with twice-daily flights arriving from Perth, three times weekly nonstop flights from darwin and seasonal direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

If you have not booked a private transfer with us you have a few options to reach the city center, including rental cars, and taxis.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

A taxi from the airport to the town center will cost approximately A$11 and the taxis can be found outside the main terminal. Several international rental car companies are available at the airport and the journey into town takes around 5 minutes.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

The main form of public transportation in Broome are buses. The Town Bus offers regularly scheduled buses that connect Cable Beach to downtown and Chinatown. Tickets cost around A$4 and services run 7 days a week every 30 minutes during peak season and every hour during offseason.

Broome Explorer Bus is an easy and cheap option to travel around Broome with services 7 days a week and bus stops located near all major accommodations with stops at Town Beach, Chinatown, Boulevard Shops, and Cable Beach.

Should I rent a car in Broome?

Renting a car when visiting Broome is a great idea and gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore the surrounding Kimberly region at your own pace.

How do I call/hail a taxi?

Taxis are available in Broome with the main companies in town being Broome Taxis, Chinatown Taxis, or Pearl Town Taxis. They can be ordered over the phone or found outside hotels and shopping destinations.

Is Broome a walking city?

Yes walking around Broome is easily done as it is a small town and access to the beaches can be done on foot from your accommodation. Although walking between Cable Beach, the Downtown area and Chinatown can take about a half-hour or more and in the heat, this can be pretty hard work. Walking around once in Downtown, Chinatown and at the beaches is easily done on flat surfaces and short distances within these areas.

Can I ride a bike in Broome?

Yes riding a bicycle when staying in Broome is a great way to see the different areas in town and can be a quicker option than walking if you want to connect from the beach to Downtown, etc. There are many hostels and hotels that offer bicycles and scooters to rent and Broome Cycles has mountain bikes for hire costing around A$30 per day or A$100 per week.

s Broome a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Broome is a remarkably safe destination to visit; just use caution when walking alone and be aware of your surroundings. The crime rate is relatively low and crimes against visitors are practically unheard of but petty theft such as pickpocketing and purse snatching is becoming more common in the built-up areas. Keep your wits about you and practice street smarts when out sightseeing.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

The main shopping opportunities in Broome are found in Chinatown where retail, souvenir shops, and the world`s finest pearl and jewelry showrooms are located. There are top quality jewelers found throughout Broome mainly in China town along with a variety of retail outlets on Broome Boulevard in Djugun by the international airport. Prime West Boulevard is the town's shopping mall where big chain stores and over 35 retail outlets including dining, fashion, homewares, and beauty can be found with a town bus stop right outside.

The Broome Courthouse Markets are open every Saturday (and Sunday during the Dry Season) with a host of local vendors selling food, handicrafts, freshwater pearls, arts, and crafts.

What is the best time to visit Broome?

The coastal town of Broome features a climate classified as a hot Semi-Arid with temperatures during the dry season averaging around 86 degrees and up to 95 during the wet season. There are two distinct seasons Wet and Dry, the wet season is from November to April with hot and humid weather with heavy downpours, and Dry from May through October with clear days, some clouds, and lower humidity. The quiet time to travel to Broome is between November and April when accommodations can be quieter and tours and attractions are less busy. The area is susceptible to tropical cyclones and summer thunderstorms with erratic rainfall.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The Australian dollar (AU$) is the official currency of Australia. Cash can be exchanged at many local banks, hotels, and the airport. ATMs are widespread in the city but may be limited in more remote towns and the Outback.

What is the food like?

The main places to eat in Broome are the esplanade along Cable Beach, Downtown Broome, or the popular Chinatown along Carnarvon Street. Broome is a cultural melting pot with a mixture of Asian, Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, European, and Aboriginal influences found in the cuisine. There are a wide variety of choices when it comes to eating out in Broome including fine dining, high-end culinary experiences, fresh and local produce, local delights, fresh fish and seafood, and plenty of al fresco dining opportunities. A specialty in Broome is `pearl meat` from the prized and rare oyster meat found in this region, the meat comes from the Pinctada Maxima oyster, which is the size of a dinner plate.

Australian Aboriginal food is popular in Broome and is served at Kooljaman Restaurant with alfresco dining with impressive views of the rusty red cliffs and the stunning cobalt seas. An indigenous owned wilderness camp with mud crabs on the menu served with salad and homemade bread.

Broome is a small town but offers visitors a very energetic and vibrant nightlife scene from cocktail bars to live music venues every night there is something for everyone in this beachside town. Enjoy a relaxed tropical atmosphere by the beaches in Broome with beachfront bars and dining options found along the esplanade. Chinatown in Broome is a happening place in the evening time with an abundance of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment options to choose from.

Visit the Matso Brewery in Broome and sample some delicious beer and cider infused with desert lime, chili, and mango. There is food served here with sandwiches and salads on the menu. Cable Beach Club is a great place to spend an evening on the sands with impressive views of a spectacular Broome sunset and alfresco decks with an extensive cocktail menu.
