How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The main airport servicing the city of Cebu is the Mactan-Cebu International Airport located on Mactan Island. If you have not booked a private transfer with us then you have a few options for transportation from the airport. There are ferries, buses, taxis, jeepneys and rental cars.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

MyBus is a bus service that transports passengers from the airport to the city in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus with a cheap, fixed rate. Buses run from the airport from 7 am until 9 pm, departing to the SM City Mall every 20 minutes. The rates are around ₱25.

Taxis can be found outside the arrivals hall, step outside and turn right, then walk down to the taxi stands at the end of the building where taxi porters can be found. Taxis are yellow or white and the approximate cost for a one way trip into the city will cost between ₱250 - ₱300. Uber and Grab Taxis are also available, simply download the app to your smartphone and enter your information with pick up and drop off destination.

Jeepney rides cost around ₱21 from the airport to the city and can be found outside the terminal.

You can take a jeepney from outside the terminal to the Bohol ferry terminal which connects to Cebu mainland, the ferry terminal on Mactan Island will transport you to Pier 3 on the mainland. The cost is around ₱16 and ferries depart every 20 minutes.

Rental cars are available at the airport and can be found outside the arrivals hall.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

Public transportation in the city of Cebu is rather limited and made up mostly of taxis, buses, jeepneys, ferries, and tricycles.

Taxis are easy to come by and one of the most common modes of transport around the city, they can be found outside major attractions, hotels and transportation hubs as well as ordered by phone. The flag fair for a taxi in the city is ₱40 + ₱3.5 for every 0.62 miles and a trip around the city should not cost more than ₱100.

Always make sure the meter is running when you take a taxi ride in Cebu. Many taxi drivers are notorious for not using the meter (which is illegal) or saying it is broken. If you encounter this issue, simply get out of the taxi and find one that will use the meter. Uber and Grab Taxis also operate in the city. You can contact the Department of Tourism in Cebu if you encounter any issues with a taxi driver in the city tel. 63-32-254-2811.

MyBus runs a service in the city connecting to the airport, the SM city mall, the SM Seaside City and the North Bus Station (near Cebu International Port in Mandaue City). A bus ride costs around ₱25 and the buses operate from 6 am until 10 pm. Buses can connect travelers to the northern and southern destinations on the Island, a trip from Cebu to Moalboal (a 4-hour journey) will cost approximately ₱700.

Taking a ride on a Jeepney in the city is a unique way to get around the city. These vibrant forms of transportation follow scheduled routes and operate 24/7 with a general cost of around ₱10 for short distances.

Motorized tricycles are a common sight in the city and can accommodate up to four passengers. A great option to go short distances and can be found all over the city.

Ferries are a great way to visit the islands the lie off the coast of Cebu such as Bohol. There are five ferry terminals located in the city with local piers such as Hagnaya Port (for Bantayan Island) and Maya (for Malapascua Island) both of which are located on the northern tip of Cebu.

Is Cebu a walking city?

Cebu Island is a great destination to explore on foot. Wander around the city and check out the ancient history of this metropolitan city. Walking around the large malls for some retail therapy is a refreshing retreat from the heat. Wander around the famous Carbon Market collecting fresh produce and souvenirs from the many street stalls. Escape to the tropical island of Bantayan for a relaxing stroll along the turquoise waterfront of the white sand beaches. Visit Olango Island filled with wildlife with over 2,000 acres that can be explored on foot. Hike through the lush green rainforest to the famous Kawasan Falls.

Can I ride a bike in Cebu?

Riding a bike around Cebu is possible with scenic surroundings and long stretches of beaches which are easily accessed by bike. Take a mountain bike trip to `The Tops` lookout point at the top of Mount Busay where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the city and surrounding islands.

Is Cebu a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Cebu is a safe city to visit, but visitors should definitely use caution and practice a few street smarts in order to stay safe in the city. Do not wander into the residential areas that are poverty-ridden or unpopulated areas, especially at night. It is recommended to avoid Colon Street and the surrounding areas such as Mango Square and the Fuente circle at night as they can be unsafe. Be careful on crowded public transportation, especially onboard jeepney`s and during rush hour as these are areas where pickpockets are very common. Keep your valuables secure at all times.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

Cebu City offers a few modern and spacious malls for some good old retail therapy and a welcome escape from the heat. The city`s two main malls are the SM City Cebu which offers four levels of shopping along with restaurants, a movie theatre, and a supermarket. The Ayala Center features luxurious shops in the heart of the city with boutiques and mini-malls clustered together as well as outdoor dining

Checking out The Carbon Market is a must! It is the oldest and largest farmers market in the city. A vibrant bustling open-air marketplace offering shoppers a unique and authentic shopping experience with hundreds of stalls selling fresh meats and produce as well as souvenirs and flowers.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The units of currency in Cebu are the Philippine Peso (₱). US dollars are not accepted, make sure to exchange your dollars for pesos before or upon entering the Philippines. Banks and ATMs are available at the airport and around the city and major credit cards are widely accepted.

What is the food like?

The sophisticated city of Cebu has some great restaurants to choose from. The cosmopolitan city offers Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Continental and Fusion cuisine as well as an abundance of delicious street food. Some of the main locations in the city to find a wide array of eateries are around the Ayala Center and IT Park. The Terraces are a newer addition to the Ayala Center with many dining options including restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating. Beach resorts on the Island of Cebu offer unique settings for a romantic dining experience in a spectacular tropical setting.

Some of the popular local dishes are `SuTuKil` sugba translates to grilled, tula translates to soup/broth and kilaw translates to raw/pickled. A popular term where you select your fresh seafood or meat from the local market and have it cooked to your liking in a restaurant of your choice.

`Lechon` is roasted, suckling pig which is some of the best in the Philippines.

What is the Sinulog festival?

The Sinulog Festival is the largest festival held in the Philippines. The festival is held the third Sunday in January every year, it lasts for nine days and commemorates the `Child Jesus`, the Lord and Protector in Cebu. The vibrant festival features street dancing rituals with music and a grand parade on the final day with a procession held at dawn featuring the Santo Nino which is carried on a boat from Mandaue City to Cebu City decorated with hundreds of candles and flowers.

What is the nightlife like?

Cebu City has a good party scene for visitors, offering a wide array of bars, clubs and entertainment establishments to suit everyone`s needs. Mango Avenue and Mango Square are the heart of most of the nightlife found in the city, where bars, clubs and karaoke places line the streets along with girlie clubs. Comedy clubs are common throughout the city where you can head for a good laugh accompanied by some drinks. Rooftop bars offer visitors unobstructed views of the city at night and a unique location for an exciting evening. Mactan Island offers the luxurious Ibiza Beach Club with a breathtaking location and an upscale, romantic evening on the sand.

I don`t speak Filipino will there be many people who speak English?

The official language spoken in Manila is Filipino. English is widely spoken in Manila and is used in schools and for written communications. Most service industry workers speak perfectly good English making it easy to communicate your needs. We suggest you get a good English-Philippines guidebook and familiarize yourself with common phrases such as hello, goodbye, excuse me and numbers 1 - 10.
