There are two major airports in Jordan which service the Dead Sea area; the main airport is the Queen Alia International Airport which is the largest airport in the country. Located 20 miles south of Amman, the journey to the Dead Sea from Amman`s main airport takes around 1 hour.

The King Hussein International Airport is located in the vicinity of Industrial City (Aqaba International Industrial Estate) northern suburb of Aqaba in Jordan.

Queen Alia International Airport - Taxis are available outside the airports with fixed and public rates, prices are displayed at the taxi ranks where you will receive a piece of paper from the taxi controller with the price of your journey. There are several international car rental companies available at the airport including Avis and Hertz, the rental car desks can be found inside the terminal. The Airport Express Bus departs every 30 - 60 minutes from 6:00 pm until midnight every hour; bus stops are located outside the terminal.

King Hussein International Airport - Taxis are available and are located outside the terminal, there are buses and rental cars available.

When you are visiting the Dead Sea area in Jordan renting a car is a good idea so you can travel around at your own pace and visit the destinations of your choice. Hwy. 1 is the main east-west highway from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea and Route 90 or the Dead Sea Highway is the main road situated along the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley from Jericho north to Tiberias. Rental cars are available at the airports and can be one of the easier and cheaper ways to get to the Dead Sea itself. Rental cars are also available to rent in the Dead Sea area at the Ein Bokek area.

There are not many options for public transportation in the Dead Sea area. Traveling to the area from other cities in Jordan and destinations in the region is made easy with tours that provide transportation to and from.

Even if you are staying in the Dead Sea region you can also take tours to different areas within the region such as heading to Masada for a hike to watch the sunrise, tours are available daily.

There are minibusses and sheruts (shared taxis) that operate in the area and travel to and from Amman, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem. Egged buses #444 and #486 run from Jerusalem’s central bus station to the Dead Sea area with a dozen buses running daily except on Friday evenings through Saturday (Shabbat) and Jewish holidays.

Yes for the most part walking around the beach areas and the attractions and sights situated along the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea promenade located at the main beach of Ein Bokek is a great place to wander around and stop at the restaurants and shops found here.

The Dead Sea is a very safe area to visit, it is relatively safe to walk anywhere at any time of day or night. Use the necessary street smarts when exploring and be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for pickpockets in busy tourist areas especially in crowded markets.

The main concerns in the Dead Sea area come with entering and floating in the Dead Sea which is famous for pictures of visitors floating in the high salt content waters. You should never attempt to swim on your stomach in the Dead Sea, the buoyancy of the water will cause your feet to float higher than usual and your head will be lower, meaning you cannot swim normally in these waters.

Do not touch your eye, nose, lips or ears with the water from the Dead Sea and Do Not swallow the water it will make you very sick. Touching your face or eyes with the water will cause extreme pain. It is also not advised to shave prior to entering the waters as the salt and other minerals in the water will cause pain upon contact.

The cobalt blue waters of the Dead Sea bring many health benefits along with a unique experience. It is not easy to swim in the Dead Sea due to its high salt concentration of 34% and mineral-rich waters along with high atmospheric pressure making it incredibly buoyant. If you attempt to dive the water will push you back up to the surface, you can, however, float with ease on your back and read a book or a newspaper, take an iconic picture.

The Dead Sea mud is rich in salt and minerals which are also known for its therapeutic properties aiding in health benefits. The area also received less ultraviolet radiation and the atmosphere contains fewer allergens and contaminants. It is popular to coat yourself in a layer of the Dead Sea mud and then bask in the sun for an hour until it dries and then rinses off in the rich waters of the Dead Sea.

Visiting a spa in the Dead Sea area is a popular activity with many different spas to choose from, many offer Dead Sea pools, Dead Sea salt scrubs, black mud massages and wraps, saunas and other beauty treatments. The Dead Sea mud is well known in the beauty world packed with minerals with a high concentration of magnesium, bromide, and potassium which can naturally aid in ailments such as psoriasis, arthritis, and allergies.

The most popular items to purchase in the Dead Sea area are Dead Sea beauty products such as face creams, eye serums, scrubs, muds and mineral-rich soaps. Purchasing packets of the Dead Sea salt crystals and tubs of mud to take home are found all over the area and can also be purchased at the Queen Alia International Airport and the Dead Sea Fortune factory as well as hotels.

There are three shopping areas located in the main beach and hotel area of Ein Bokek, all of which are relatively small. The Ein Boke mall is right in the middle of the hotel zone where Dead Sea products along with beach items can be purchased.

The currency in Amman is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD or JD) the Jordanian Dinar is divided into 1000 fils, it is also referred to as `leerah`. US Dollars are not accepted. You must exchange your dollars for Jordanian Dinar before or upon arrival. ATMs and banks exchange currency and are available in the city. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it is recommended to carry some cash with you at all times to pay for transportation, snacks, and purchases in outdoor markets.

There are not too many restaurants in the Dead Sea area, however, there are restaurants along the main beach zone of the Ein Bokek area as well as chain restaurants like McDonald's and buffet-style restaurants along with Herods Restaurant found on the Ein Bokek boardwalk servicing fresh fish and seafood. There are some cafes in the area and a popular Middle Eastern restaurant. Many of the hotels and resorts in the area offer excellent dining options with a wide variety of international and local cuisines. The Movenpick Resort and Spa Dead Sea has a selection of nine restaurants on site to cater to all taste buds. The Daniel Hotel boasts the La Carrousel restaurant with buffet style dining including Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and European cuisine. The Isrotel Hotel has the Ranch House with American cuisine.

There is not much nightlife in the area but watching spectacular sunsets is something unique to enjoy as well as seeing the night sky light up with stars at the lowest point on earth is a fantastic experience. There are two popular bars in the area, Binakini a Moroccan restaurant that turns into a dance club at night and also offers karaoke and belly dancing shows. The Muza pub located in Arad is a real pub scene decorated with soccer scarves and soccer games on tv as well as plenty of alcohol and pub grub.

A huge party scene held in the Dead Sea Area is the -424 Dead Sea Rave a massive EDM festival that takes place once a year in Masada. The Leonardo Club Hotel offers a unique experience for families at Fantasy Island which is set up in the hotel`s lobby and includes Fear Factor maze, a horror-filled maze, and a 7D movie theatre experience.

An entry visa is required to enter Jordan and can be purchased at the airport, if not already obtained before traveling. The price of a visa is around JOD40 and payable in Jordanian dinars only, you can pay at the immigration line at the first counter and then pass through to obtain your stamp at the second counter in the customs area.

The official language spoken in the Dead Sea area is Arabic. English is spoken and understood by most individuals in the service industry, however, if you travel to the areas of Upper Egypt you will most likely encounter individuals that do not speak or understand English.
