Norwich may not be one of the major cities of England today, but for hundreds of years it was its second-largest city, after London. It is the most complete version of a Medieval city that you will find left in the United Kingdom. Elm Hill and many other cobbled streets, including down by the Quay Side, showcase Tudor-era houses and businesses restored to their 16th-century glory. In the middle of town you will find the largest covered market in Europe. Norwich has a long intellectual and literary tradition as well, and in 2012 it was named a UNESCO City of Literature.
