Wexford is a former Viking town that reminds visitors of its significant place in Irish history. County Wexford is most remarkable for the long stretches of pristine beach that line its coast, and for the evocative historic monuments in Wexford Town and on the Hook Peninsula. The Blackstairs Mountains are excellent for hiking. Wexford is well-known for its opera festival which it hosts every autumn.
