With its 2,000 year history, Zaragoza offers a stunning legacy of monuments in the streets of the city, vestiges of the Roman, Moorish, Jewish and Christian communities who left their mark on the place: Roman ruins such as the Circus; Mudéjar-style landmarks, combining Islamic and Gothic architecture such as the Aljafería Palace, an 11th-century Moorish palace, and the Cathedral of the Savior, begun in the 12th century with the UNESCO World Heritage designations; and the work of genius painter Francisco de Goya.
