By Taxi

Taxis in Abu Dhabi are frequent, fast and affordable. A taxi ride is the most common form of transportation in the city and can be found at taxi stands, hailed from the street or ordered over the phone. TransAD regulates the taxi companies in the capital city making it pretty simple and efficient to order a taxi right from your hotel, tel 600-53-53-53. There are a few different taxis that run in the city, the most common are silver colored which are metered and the newer pink taxis are strictly for female passengers and boys under age 10. Pink taxis are driven by a woman and also run on meters. Fares start around AED5 and charge AED1.82 per 0.62 miles thereafter, the prices increase slightly from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am. By Bus

Buses in the city are run by the DOT Department of Transport with 14 bus routes that run from 5:00 am until midnight on the weekdays and until 2:00 am on the weekends. Buses originate from the central bus station on Hazza Bin Zayed Road. Fares cost approximately AED2 or purchase an Ojra rechargeable travel card which can be used for a week or a month to travel on city buses. Vist for more information. Yas Island offers a free express shuttle bus which links passengers to major attractions on the island; the shuttle bus operates from 9:00 am to midnight and runs every hour on three routes. Visit for more information.

By Car

The city offers a wide range of rental car companies at the airport and major hotels. If you are looking to rent a car to travel to other destinations in the UAE. There is really no need for a car in Abu Dhabi as there are plenty of transportation options to get around the city. You must have an international driver`s license, your passport and a valid credit card to rent a vehicle.

By Boat

Abu Dhabi sits on the sparkling turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf where boats have direct access to the area. Traditional Arbra`s (wooden boats), catamarans, traditional dhow cruise ships, speedboats and luxury yachts travel the waterways taking passengers to different destinations. You can take day trips to deserted islands, fishing trips, snorkeling trips or a trip to Dalma Island, relax and enjoy the spectacular sights of the city on a sunset cruise.

By Bicycle

The city offers ADCB Cyacle Bikeshare that is a green option to renting bikes with 50 stations situated around the city, a few of these sharing locations include Yas Island and Al Raha Beach. You can rent bikes from the stations for AED15 a day or AED40 for 3 days and return at different stations around the city with an unlimited number of journeys during a one-hour rental period.

By Foot

Walking around Abu Dhabi is one of the best ways to see the beach areas and explore Corniche and the boardwalk where you can check out the shops, restaurants, and attractions. There are plenty of attractions situated close together on Yas Island that can be reached on foot. The heat in Abu Dhabi can be overwhelming exceeding 122F degrees with high humidity. Walking in the early mornings or later at night when the sun is not as intense is recommended, drink plenty of water.
