HIROSHIMA - GETTING AROUND

By Tram

One of the best and most popular ways to get around Hiroshima is by taking the street tram. The trams are operated `Hiroden` and the main tram depot is located just outside the Hiroshima Station. There are 8 routes in total and the most useful routes for tourists are Route #2 (Red) and Route #6 (Yellow). These transport passengers to the A-Bomb Dome, Peace Park and the downtown area where many attractions are located. Route #1 (Orange) will take you further to the southern parts of downtown. The trams cost a flat fee of around Y160 for a ride within the city and a one day pass will cost around Y600.

By Astramline

The Astramline is an electric transit system that runs for a total of 11 miles. The line originates from the city center in Hondori to the Koiki-Koen-mae station, which is situated near the Big Arch Stadium. The electric trains pass by several popular sightseeing attractions including museums and temples.

By Foot

Walking around in the city of Hiroshima provides visitors with a historic journey through some of the most popular attractions, most of which are situated in and around Peace Park. The city is beautiful in the spring when the trees and flowers are blooming, full of greenery in the summertime and the change of leaves in autumn. Peace Park is a large park in the city where several attractions are located including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, The Peace Bell, and the Children`s Peace Monument.

By Bike

Riding a bicycle in the city of Hiroshima is a great way to see the city with plenty of beautiful areas to explore on two wheels. The city has pretty wide sidewalks and many tree-lined paths along the river which are perfect for a leisurely ride. There are several bike rental places in the city offering bikes to rent for the day or by the hour, and most hotels will be happy to arrange bike rentals for their guests as well.

Taking a bike ride out in the hills outside of the city around the Hijiyama Park provides beautiful and more challenging scenery for a ride. Another famous route for cyclers is the `Shimanami Kaido` which takes riders on a beautiful scenic route with views of the islands.

By Taxi

Taxis are plentiful in the city and most often found outside the stations including Hiroshima Station as well as the bus and tram stations in and around the city. A taxi ride from the Hiroshima Station to the Peace Memorial Park will cost around Y1,200 and the journey takes around 10 minutes. Taxis can be hailed from the street, found outside most hotels and tourist attractions and stations or ordered over the phone if a taxi is available for hire the light on top of the car will be lit up.

By Bus

The Hiroshima Sightseeing Buses offer two lines in the city that will take passengers to many points of interest. The buses take a loop around the city and the major attractions, the green and orange lines are most useful for tourists and stop at Hiroshima Station and Peace Park. A single ride cost is around Y200 and a one day pass will cost around Y400. There are other regular buses that run in the city mostly used by locals for commuting and traveling to the outer suburbs and other cities. The main bus stations are located by Hiroshima Station and fares start around Y160.

By Ferry

The Aqua Net Ferry is an easy and fast way to travel from Hiroshima to Miyajima Island, the ferry departs from the Motoyasu Pier and the pier at Miyajima. The journey takes around 45 minutes and costs around Y2,000 for a one-way ticket and Y3,600 for a return ticket, the ferries depart every hour.
