HOI AN - GETTING AROUND

By Foot

The ancient port city of Hoi An is a relatively small and compact making it simple to get around on foot. Walking is the best option to see the sights and attractions that this vibrant city has to offer, wander the narrow streets and alleyways and discover the true beauty of this place. Ancient Town is the best place to see on foot with colorful shop-houses occupied with restaurants, cafes, bars, and tailor shops. Across the river from Ancient Town is the trendy Riverside area offering more eateries and entertainment, the streets here come alive at night adorned with colorful lanterns iconic to the city. Taking a leisurely stroll along the beautiful beaches found here is the perfect way to start your vacation offering soft white sands and sparkling blue waters with plenty of oceanfront dining and entertainment options.

By Bicycle

Getting around Hoi An by bicycle is a fun and authentic experience, it is also what the locals do, you will see plenty of residents and visitors riding their bikes on the colorful streets. The city offers many different tours that include bicycle rides through the spectacular countryside in Hoi An and past the verdant rice fields. Cycling is a great way to see the area and the beaches, take a ride to Cua Dai Beach or An Bang Beach both around 20 minutes outside of the city center.

By Taxi

Taxis in the city of Hoi An are one of the main forms of public transportation. The main companies that operate in the city are locally run, reliable and cheap. There really isn`t much need for a taxi in the city as everything is so compact and can easily be accessed on foot, you would need to catch a taxi to get to and from the airport and if you desire to see some areas outside of the city itself. You can find taxis on the streets, outside the main bus station or call to order one over the phone.

By Motorcycle Taxi - Xe om

Motorbike taxis or xe oms can be found everywhere in Hoi An and provide a quick option for getting around the city. It is advised to agree upon a price before taking your ride.

By Boat

Getting around Hoi An by boat is easily done, the ancient port city sits on the Thu Bon River and the coast of Vietnam and the South China Sea. There are many opportunities to get out and see the city from the water. If you make your way down to the Riverside and Ancient Town you can easily take a boat ride, enjoy a sunset cruise, travel down the river by canoe or a traditional sampan boat. You can take a luxury sunset cruise on board a privately chartered boat. Take a day trip out to the secluded Cham Islands by speedboat.

Cyclos (a tricycle with seats pedaled by a driver) is a unique way to see Hoi An and the `Ancient town` area. The drivers are full of knowledge on the landmarks in the city and provide a unique, enjoyable journey. Cyclos can usually be found anywhere in the city but are most prominent in the Quang Trieu Assembly Hall and close to the Japanese covered bridge.
