HAKONE - NEIGHBORHOODS

Gora Station

The busy neighborhood that surrounds Hakone Gora Park is closest to the center of the city and has plenty to offer visitors including an abundance of accommodations, plenty of restaurants, shops and easy access to public transportation. Gora is best known as one of Hakone`s 17 hot spring resorts and was specifically created as an onsen town in the early 20th century. Gora hotels are very popular and Gora is known for its five different kinds of natural hot spring water. There are many ryokans, traditional Japanese style inns found in Gora with many offering their onsens (hot springs) as well as many western-style hotels that also have their own onsen hot springs baths. Staying in Gora puts visitors near many of the city`s main attractions including the fascinating Hakone Open Air Museum and the sprawling Hakone Gora Park.

This neighborhood offers quite a few luxury accommodations to choose from in the Gora neighborhood including Gora Kadan and Gora Hanaougi which are both spectacular properties blending traditional Japanese hospitality along with modern comforts all set amongst breathtaking scenic surroundings with simply impeccable service.

Miyanoshita Station

The historic neighborhood of Miyanoshita is famous for the Fujiya hotel, which was the first Western-style hotel in all of Japan and one of the grandest hotels in the country. Fujiya Hotel is a historic landmark founded in 1878 in the city where famous figures such as Charlie Chaplin, Helen Keller and other dignitaries stayed in the past. The hotel is still a popular place to stay today with indoor and outdoor pools, hot springs bathing facilities, several restaurants, and a famous tea lounge as well as a museum on-site dedicated to the hotel`s history. The Miyanoshita neighborhood sits overlooking the Haya River valley and is known for its onsen hot springs which boast spectacular scenic views. The area offers a wide selection of accommodation options for visitors including traditional Japanese inns (ryokans), classic hotels, modern resorts, and budget guesthouses. The location also provides endless outdoor opportunities for travelers who wish to get out and be at one with nature, the mountains, valleys, lakes and scenic onsens provide a great escape for those wanting to hike and relax on vacation.

Yumoto Station

Yumoto is a popular neighborhood for visitors to stay when visiting Hakone, it features hot spring resorts that run along the Sukumo and Haya Rivers. Yumoto is the entry point of Hakone and many visitors make this their base for exploring Hakone, it is also the last stop on the Odakyu train line from Shinjuku/Odawara, where many passengers stop on their way through. The quaint hot springs neighborhood is compact and filled with traditional shops, cafes, restaurants, noodle shops and plenty of sights and attractions. Visitors can walk along the main street in Yumoto or along the river and find plenty of dining and shopping options along with a number of accommodations. Yumoto is the closest area in Hakone to Tokyo with plenty of evening entertainment to keep visitors occupied as well as a great selection of sightseeing attractions including plenty of museums and temples to explore. The Yumoto neighborhood offers plenty of great traditional restaurants as well as casual dining options such as Garo Cafe.
