Day 1 at Lake Titicaca

Welcome to Lake Titicaca! Upon arrival, should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit baggage. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There are many exciting things to explore at Lake Titicaca.

One of the highlights of Lake Titicaca is visiting the Uros People who live on floating isles they create from dried layers of reeds. We highly recommend a half day tour of the Floating Islands of Uro. The Uros way of life began over 500 years ago when the Uros sought to isolate themselves from the Collas and the Incas. The Uros use dried totora reeds, which grow abundantly in the shallows of the lake, to make their boats (balsas mats), houses and to build the very islands on which they live. Day-to-day activities include fishing, trapping birds and living on these magical lake plants. Travelers enjoy purchasing wonderful arts and crafts from the Uros as mementos.

Day 2 at Lake Titicaca

Today is your first full day at Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, and the birthplace of the Aymara culture. All activities start early in the morning. Take a taxi from your hotel`s lobby and to the pier in order to board the boat that will take you to your selected activities.

For those seeking more adventure, we recommend a full day tour, which combines visits to Taquile and Uros Islands. You will take a boat trip to the remote island of Taquile, where you will visit the natives living on top of the mountain found on the island. This 10-hour tour requires that travelers be in good physical shape since it involves an exciting climb up a 600-step stone stairway,13,300 feet above sea level. The vista from this height is magnificent with unforgettable views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. You will meet the most amazing people who retain their millenary traditions and remain almost uninfluenced by today's modern world.

Day 3 at Lake Titicaca

Take a taxi from your hotel to the Sillustani Ruins, a pre-Inca burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo. The tombs are built above the ground in tower-like structures called chullpas.

Next, transport to Amantani Island and explore Centro Ceremonial Pachatata which are the Tiwanaku ruins atop two mountain peaks Pachatata and Pachamama. The hillsides are terraced, mostly worked by hand, and planted with wheat, quinoa, potatoes, and other vegetables. Livestock, including alpacas, also graze the slopes. It is a very peaceful Island, boasts great views and has no roads or vehicles, there are no restaurants in Amantani, villagers serve food in their own home. The villagers sometimes organize rousing traditional dances, letting travelers dress in their traditional party gear to dance the night away. Experience the different aspects of rural life and discover the magic of the Andean culture by visiting Amantani Island.

Additional Days at Lake Titicaca

Enjoy an overnight homestay at either Amantani or Uros Islands stay. Join a local family to experience the daily life. Learn about the construction and history of floating homes before spending the day fishing and creating handicrafts. End the evening by the campfire and begin the morning with breakfast consisting of lake fish.

Enjoy a Kayaking tour on the natural reserve of Lake Titicaca. There are several tours to choose from ranging from 3 hours to 4 days (including overnight homestays). Take a guided tour to Amaru Muru stopping off at Chucuito Village which is a colonial town near the Temple of Inca.
