Belize enjoys a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. Temperatures vary regionally according to elevation, proximity to the coast, and exposure to the offshore Caribbean Trade Winds. Temperatures are slightly higher inland, except at higher elevations such as the Mountain Pine Ridge, where temperatures are generally cooler. Map
Rainfall varies significantly from north to south, but the most popular destinations in Belize are in the central, coastal, and inland districts where annual rainfall is roughly 70 inches/year, and less than 3 inches/month in the dry season. When traveling during the rainy season visitors can expect somewhat less rain in northernmost destinations like Ambergris Cay, and a bit more in southern destinations such as Hopkins and Placencia Beaches.
