Argentina Weather
There is a very wide range of temperatures from region to region, and season to season, in Argentina, with both the hottest and the coldest temperatures ever recorded in South America occurring here. With that said, the climate in Argentina is generally temperate, and ranges from sub-tropical in the north, to sub-polar in the far south, with seasons reversed from those in the northern hemisphere. Winter is typically from July through October, and summer from December through March. Map
The northern destinations (Salta, Iguazu) are characterized by very hot summers with mild, dry winters. Central Argentina (Mendoza, Buenos Aires) has hot summers and cool winters. The southern regions (Bariloche, Puerto Madryn) have warm summers and very cold winters with heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous zones. Higher elevations at all latitudes experience colder conditions. Sothern Patagonia (El Calafate, El Chalten has a harsh winter climate, and conditions can vary on a daily basis, even in summer. Map
The southern regions, particularly the far south, (Ushuaia) experience long periods of daylight from November to February (up to nineteen hours) and extended nights from May to August. Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, also has an uncharacteristically moderate climate due to its [proximity to the mountains and the sea. Map
