BIRDING AND WILDLIFE IN PERU

For birwatchers, Peru is a true paradise. It is filled with species dwelling in unique and fragile habitats, large migratory birds arriving from the most remote parts of the world and with species that have disappeared in other countries. New species are continually being discovered every year in its cloud-forests and Amazon jungles. 1 in 10 species from around the world are found in the Amazon. Home to approximately 427 mammals, 378 reptiles, 428 amphibians, 1,294 birds, 3,000 fish, 40,000 plants and 2.5 million insect species, the Amazon Jungle provides the greatest collection of wildlife including jaguars, Black Caimans, Anacondas, Electric Eels, Piranhas and various poisonous frogs and parasites. In the coasts of Paracas, at the Paracas National Reserve and Ballestas Islands, one can also find sealions, peruvian boobies, Guanay Black cormorants, Humboldt Penguins and Incan Terns among other birds and ocassional dolphins.
