Agios Sostis Beach

Taking the road beyond Panormos beach and facing east onto the bay, Agios Sostis is one of the more remote beaches on the island. Void of accommodation and crowds this beautiful beach offers not only peace and quiet but a very good small restaurant. Access is limited to private vehicle and taxi.

Agios Stefanos Beach

Windless, sandy beach next to the new harbor, Tourlos. a mile and a quarter north of town and facing to the west is the well developed beach of Agios Stefanos. Many hotels in this area supply a wide range of accommodation with the beach itself offering a good selection of restaurants and cafes. Organized, with fish tavernas, as well as a bar-taverna. Water sports available: sea sport facilities such as water skiing, surfing and jet skiing. This family oriented beach can be reached via taxi, private vehicle or regular bus service from town.

Agios Ioannis Beach

On the south-west side of the island and facing Delos, the relatively small and picturesque beach of Agios Ioannis offers soft white sands, crystalline waters and a collection of small coves catering to the general public. Famous as the location for the award winning motion picture `Shirley Valentine`, many appreciate this setting for its calm and relaxed atmosphere. Agios Ioannis is fully organized, wind-protected beach, ideal for families or incognito magnates. Christos taverna combines local food and marble sculpturing! You can enjoy a wonderful view over the island of Delos. Regular bus service from town provides easy access throughout the day.

Agrari Beach

One of the quietest beaches of the southern chain. Medium in size this beach has a single restaurant and beach bar that caters to all who enjoy seclusion from the crowds. Agrari is less popular than its neighbor Elia and much calmer, couples seem to prefer this beach. There is no local bus service but Agrari can be reached by private transport, taxi and boat shuttles from Plati Yialos. Due to its close proximity to Elia this beach can also be reached easily by foot from the Elia bus terminal.

Choulakia Beach

Next to Agios Stefanos, with beautiful rounded stones from which it took its name. Here too, access is made only by private car or taxi, or by walking about half a mile from Agios Stefanos bus stop.

Elia Beach

Elia beach is the longest of the south chain of beaches, just 2 miles from Ano Mera. A not so crowded, large beach with a mix of sun worshippers: hetero, gay and some nudity at one end. The organized part has 3 restaurants, tavernas, water sports facilities (water-skiing, parasailing and windsurfing) with the added attraction of the islands only water park situated just back from the beach and only minutes away. It is a quiet beach unlike Paradise, Super Paradise and others. There is a nice view to the left up the hill, enjoy the traditional Cycladean houses. Elia is the last stop on the caique (traditional fishing boat used as taxi boat) leaving from central Platis Yialos Beach, there is also a bus service from Mykonos Town, which is 6½ miles away.

Ftelia Beach

Very often subjected to a good onshore wind, north-facing Ftelia beach, is unpleasant to sun bathers, but is a great pleasure to windsurfing enthusiasts. Located on the north and central part of the island, this beach forms the base to Panormos Bay, the largest on Mykonos. There is a restaurant to serve the needs of those who visit and access to this beach can only be made by taxi or private vehicles.

Kalafatis Beach

One of the earliest established beaches, this beautiful bay and long sweeping Kalafatis beach has become famous to windsurfers who enjoy a good offshore breeze. Hotel accommodation is available together with various water sports including diving. Many small restaurants can be found in the area often specializing in local seafood dishes. Access to the beach made easy from town through a regular bus service.

Kalo Livadi Beach

Situated at the lower end of a long open valley, Kalo Livadi is part of another group of southern beaches reachable only via the Ano Mera road. It was the perfect place for those who look for a peaceful environment, but since Dimitris opened Sol y Mar as an equal rival to Nammos in Psarou, every local entrepreneur is trying to find his hot spot on that beach. Buses run frequently from Mykonos Town to Kalo Livadi beach.

Korfos Beach

Only one and a quarter miles from town. The beach attracts mainly wind surfing enthusiasts, due to the frequency of good on-shore winds. Not suitable for swimming or sunbathing.

Lia Beach

Lia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mykonos with exotic waters and great environment. It is located in the south eastern edge of the island, 9 miles from Chora, near Kalafatis. Lia beach is well organized with colorful umbrellas, sundecks and other useful facilities. Even though it is considered a rather quiet beach for the standards of Mykonos, Lia has been a favorite place for this reason. Its blue waters and the white sand create the ultimate combination for a swimming paradise. The beach is surrounded by rocks making it a great spot for diving and snorkeling. There are two restaurants nearby and a beach bar with various snacks and drinks. The hills that surround the beach are mostly bare and the natural landscape gives you the feeling of total freedom. Accessible by private vehicle or taxi, it is easily reachable if you pass from Ano Mera and then follow the signs. It is one of the last stops with the boat that goes from Chora to the beaches of the island.

Megali Ammos

The closest beach to Chora, reachable by a 15 min walk, ideal for those who only have a few hours to spend.

Ornos Beach

Located on the southwest corner of the island and only a mile and a quarter from town, this area has recently developed into a village. Due, for the most part to the sea`s sandy bottom which drops off very gently from the shore, Ornos provides the perfect family beach. There are schools for water-skiing and surfing. Access to and from town is made easy with a frequent local bus service. A daily boat service to other beaches as well as excursions to the island of Delos. Good yachts anchorage.

Panormos Beach

On the north side of the island (3 miles from Mykonos town) and facing east onto Panormos Bay is the long and beautiful Panormos Beach. Two restaurants and one hotel serve this otherwise remote area, reachable only by private vehicle or taxi. Nude bathing tolerated. This beach, because of its location, is best suited during periods of southerly wind. It is among the best known unorganized beaches on the island. Greek celebrities seem to prefer them. On Panormos, Giorgos Zaglaras taverna, the real definition of hip and chic. Panormos is the well known secret on the island. This unique beach can be reached only by private vehicle or taxi, yet the road network is in excellent condition.

Paradise Beach

One of the most famous, nudist friendly, attracting young crowds by its 24 hour music and its day and night beach parties. Paradise developed its fame and contemporary name through its discovery by the `Hippies` and other world traveling backpackers of the 60's. This beautiful large expanse of beach caters primarily to the young offering a well organized cafeteria, snack bars, beach bars, night clubs, professional diving center and camping facilities. Water sports, a diving center and beach bars are available. It is a nice, flat beach. A fully organized camping is located behind the beach. The famous Cavo Paradiso which is a large complex working like a night club, containing a pool, a restaurant and a beach bar, is located on a hill, above the beach. By night, Paradise Beach transforms into a huge club with music and people dancing on the sand and the rocks until dawn. Located between Paranga and Super Paradise, it is reachable by a footpath from Platis Gialos, by bus or small boat.

Paraga Beach

Set in a picturesque landscape (4 miles south of Chora), it is one of the smallest beaches, a combination of two sandy beaches separated by a headland. The southern beach is the calmer, while the northern one is fully organized and lined by many taverns playing music. It has a new-age feel about it, with fine sand and huge rocks juxtaposed with blue water. In the spring time it reminds you of the old days, but in the summer it`s crowded with Italians. Paranga beach can be reached by bus, by a 15 minute walk from Platis Yialos or by one of the frequent taxi-boats going to Super Paradise Beach.

Plati Yialos beach

About 2.5 miles from Mykonos town, on the south side. It is one of the longest and most popular beaches of the island, filling with thousands of people during summer time attracted by the golden sand and the wonderful turquoise crystalline waters. It is one of the oldest and most established of the southern beaches. It was once a family beach, but nowadays it's becoming more cosmopolitan. This beach is excellently organized and provides a variety of facilities for sea sports such as water-skiing, diving, pedal boat and more. Quite a nice, long beach, offering sun beds, umbrellas, water sports facilities and many restaurants and bars. You can enjoy a drink on the beach on loungers with seats and table. As one of the most visited beaches connections by boat can be made throughout the day to the other southern beaches of Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia. Bus service from town is very frequent, till very late at night.

Psarou Beach

Situated within walking distance and just to the right of the Plati Yialos bus terminal and about 3 miles from Mykonos Town, Psarou is one of the earliest established beaches. The wonderful location, clean sea and sandy beach has made Psarou Beach famous for attracting celebrities from all over the world. The beach is excellently organized offering a variety of sea-sports which includes scuba-diving. Offering glamour and prestige, it's the place to see and to be seen! Nammos the beach restaurant offers the same glamour and prestige as long as you are willing to pay the price. In high season you might have bribe your way to gain access to your spot on the beach. The beach is reachable by local bus.

Super Paradise Beach

It is considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Virtually void of hotels and without local bus service, the exclusivity of Super Paradise beach has made it a favorite for gay visitors to the island for many years. A magnificent beach with crystal clear blue water in a small, deep bay: half the beach is family-oriented, the other half is fully gay with nude bathing permitted, nudists often prefer the rocky paths & coves. Most famous gay beach in this part of the Mediterranean. This beautiful beach set in a small but deep bay has good restaurants and bar discos that echo throughout the day the energy of the town's nightlife. Due to its popularity, Super Paradise Beach can get very crowded during peak season. Access to the beach is reached by taxi, private vehicle and a regular boat service from the Plati Yialos dock.
