Day 1 in Sihanoukville
Welcome to Sihanoukville! Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and immigration. We recommend you get acquainted the seaside town of Sihanoukville, check out the Golden Lion Roundabout, which is an iconic landmark in the city, the statue is made up of a lion and lioness with scary faces, painted in gold. Wander around Independence Park, a peaceful space in the city where the statue of Harihara stands and celebrates the country`s freedom from the Khmer Rouge on January 7th, 1979. There is a miniature Preah Vihear Temple, which is a historical temple located on the Thai-Cambodian Border.
Make your way to one of the beautiful beaches found in Sihanoukville, stop in some of the shops found along the beaches selling classic beachwear like sarongs, jewelry, and souvenirs. Change into your swimsuit and hit the sand, relax and soak up some rays then submerge yourself in the tranquil blue waters. Ochheuteal and Serendipity Beach are two of the most visited beaches in the area with soft white sands perfect for a stroll. There are many great activities to enjoy down by the beach including windsurfing, kayaking, and kitesurfing or check out the marine life underwater doing some snorkeling.
Stay down by the beach until the sunsets and witness the spectacular array of vibrant colors light up the sky. Wander along the beaches and choose a restaurant with a view where you can enjoy dinner with a view, dine on some delicious fresh seafood and some refreshing tropical cocktails. After dinner head to one of the many casinos in town where you can try your hand at some blackjack, roulette or poker. Sihanoukville is the Las Vegas of Cambodia with Holiday Palace Casino being the longest running casino in the city.
Day 2 in Sihanoukville
Take a refreshing morning stroll along the beach and take in the serene beauty of the area first thing in the wake of the morning light. Find a place to enjoy some breakfast around the beach and walk around the local shops.
Visit the Wat Leu Buddhist Temple situated in a picturesque port town on the Sihanoukville Mountain surrounded by forests boasting breathtaking views over the town and nearby islands. The temple is a religious, historical site with significant architecture that features a gold-colored exterior and a thatched roof surrounded by high walls. There are carved stone three-headed white elephants and Buddha statues on site.
Head out to the Kbal Chhay Waterfall, a multi-tiered 45-foot high cascading fall surrounded by fascinating natural beauty filled with greenery. The waterfall is fed by different water sources from the nearby mountains, enjoy the pools here, take a swim and splash around in the falls. There are great picturesque spots around the waterfall and pools to enjoy a picnic and refreshments.
Explore the spectacular depths of Ream National Park made up of evergreen and melaleuca forests, mangroves, estuaries, rivers, beaches, coral reefs, wildlife, and marine life. Take a hike or trek around the lush verdant forests and spot some of the exotic wildlife including rhesus monkeys, dugongs, turtles, dolphins, and mouse-deer.
After a busy morning out in nature, head to one of the many spas found around the beaches and indulge in a wide range of excellent treatments including Khmer massage, body wraps, and facials.
On your last evening in Sihanoukville take a cooking class, there are a few selections for cookery schools in Sihanoukville where you can learn to make Khmer specialties. The experienced chefs can introduce you to Southeast Asian cuisine with fresh authentic ingredients and unique cooking techniques like mastering how to make a spring roll.
After dinner, take a stroll along one of the beaches and stop into one of the relaxing beach bars for a nice evening under the stars.
Additional Days in Sihanoukville
If you are able to spend additional days in Sihanoukville and happen to be in town on the weekend check out the Otres Market which is a popular place on Saturday evenings. The market begins at 4 pm and runs into the wee hours of the morning offering stalls selling delicious cuisine and unique souvenirs, there is live music and plenty of drinks to enjoy.
Island hopping and day trips to idyllic places such as Koh Rang, Koh Tas, and other nearby offshore islands can be enjoyed by boat from the pier in Sihanoukville.
