Boumalne Dadès sits in the Dadès river valley at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains. The hills that surround the city, the Dadès Gorges, are popular tourist attractions and are great to hike and explore should you give yourself the time to do so. The city was built by refugees from Spain in the late 15th century in the traditional earthen clay and the city is known for its distinct adobe hue, which nearly all buildings in town are painted, even modern-day buildings. This is a great place to explore especially in April and May, when the valley blooms with sweet-smelling roses.
