  • Beaune

    Beaune is a bustling, wealthy, charming place of pilgrimage for art lovers, wine lovers and gastronomes. It is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the district. It`s history goes back over 2,000 years, once a Gallic sanctuary, then a Roman town. Until the 14th century, it was the residence of the ducs de Bourgogne. The Côte de Beaune, is known for its Burgundy wines, and Beaune is known for its annual wine sales organized by the Hospices de Beaune. This is also considered the unofficial wine capital of Burgundy and a great central location to explore the region.   • Burgundy - Franche-Comte

    The region of Burgundy-Franche-Comte consists of the two former regions of Burgundy and Franche-Comte which were merged into one region in January 2016. The region borders Switzerland and the French regions of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Ile-de-France and Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. The former region of Burgundy is famous worldwide for its fine wines and the vineyards attract many tourists, however, much of the rest of the region, especially the Franche-Comte area, is largely unknown. Yet it is home to rolling countryside that varies from the Jura mountain range to large forests, historic châteaux and religious buildings, beautiful villages and a scattering of major towns, including Dijon.     Southern Burgundy area has an unbelievable number of historic monuments and attractions, surprisingly tucked away in a sleepy countryside. There are more than 300 churches in Burgundy, and many are masterpieces of Gothic architecture.
