LAMPANG FAQ`S
The Lampang Airport is located close to the city center situated on Phaholyothin Road. The airport accepts twice-daily flights from Bangkok`s Don Mueang Airport and three daily flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you only have two options for transportation from the airport to your hotel.
What types of transportation can I find at the airport?The airport offers rental cars with several international companies including Avis, Budget, Hertz, Sixt and Thai rent a car.
There are some songthaews waiting outside the airport for arriving flights, they cost approximately 50 baht per passenger to take the short trip into town.
How do I get from the train station to my hotel?The historic train station located in Lampang is situated 1.55 miles away from the city center at the junction of Thanon Surane and Talarat Rat Roads. The station dates back to 1916, Lampang is a major stop on the northern railway line that runs from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. There are tuk-tuks available to connect passengers to the town center and prices run around 80 baht.
How do I get from the bus station to my hotel?Lampang`s main bus station is located on Thanon Jant Surin not far from the railway station. There are tuk-tuks and songthaews available to connect to the center of town.
How do I get around the city using public transportation?A unique and authentic way to get around the historic city of Lampang is by horse-drawn carriages. Taking a ride along the charming streets to see the sights and historical temples is an iconic way to get around. The horse-drawn carriages line up outside of hotels waiting to take visitors on a ride, they can also be found outside of museums and other attractions and a ride around the circuit of the city`s sights will cost upwards of 400 baht for an hour.
Other forms of public transportation in the city include songthaews and motorbike taxis. The yellow and green songthaews act as a taxi, some have fixed routes others can be hired for a negotiated price. Many of the fixed routes include a stop at the bus station in town, a quick ride costs around 20 baht per person.
Motorbike taxis are predominant in the city offering rides to single passengers starting at 30 baht depending upon the duration and distance of the ride. Motorbikes can also be hired for the day for a fee of around 200 baht.
Is Lampang a walking city?Yes walking around the historic city is possible and interesting with many ancient buildings and temples to see. The Old Market Road which runs along the Wang River is a very pleasurable walk. Exploring the charming ancient streets on foot, filled with Chinese, Burmese and Indian architecture is simply beautiful. Wandering the many markets including the night market on Walking Street is very interesting with hundreds of stalls filled with handmade goods and delicious authentic Thai cuisine.
Can I ride a bike in Lampang?Yes, bicycles are a great way to get around the charming city of Lampang and are available for hire at many shops and hotels. The cost of a bicycle for the day runs around 100 baht and the Tourism Authority of Thailand has free bicycle hire from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm (be sure to bring your passport).
Is Lampang a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?Lampang is not a dangerous city; there are very few incidents of violence, theft or harassment and tourist police do well maintaining the safety of the city. Travelers should still be cautious just as in any other city in the world, be aware of pickpockets in tourist areas and certain scam artists. Keep your bags and belongings close to you, especially at night.
What are some popular areas for shopping?There are many authentic markets found in Lampang offering some unique items to purchase while visiting the historic city. The Kad Tung Kwian Market is a local market and one of the best found in northern Thailand. The locals shop for their groceries and many stalls sell authentic local food and products. The Walking Street Market is offered on Saturday and Sunday nights filled with stalls selling handicrafts, souvenirs, and food. The city of Lampang features a signature product, the `chicken` branded kitchen ceramics with over 50 factories found throughout the town.
What is the best time to visit Lampang?The city of Lampang has a pretty dry climate compared to surrounding provinces, summertime is from March until June with temperatures that can reach the triple digits. The summer does bring typical afternoon summer showers and thunderstorms. The rainy season is from June to November when winter begins with cold air from Siberia with evening temperatures that dip into the 50s. The winter weather features pleasant days filled with sunshine and dry air with cool mornings and evenings. The calendar in Lampang is filled with festivals and events all year round including the Lampang Ceramic Fair (December), Fish Eating Fair (March), and the Klong Bu Ja Festival (April).
What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?The Thai Baht is the currency used in Lampang and you will need to exchange your dollars to Baht. Try to avoid major banks and popular tourist areas as you tend to get the worst exchange rates.
Tipping is not a common practice in Thailand and is not customary. There is no requirement to tip but small gratuities for great service are appreciated, and most restaurants and hotels will include a 10% service charge on your bill.

Is there a certain dress code when visiting temples? What is the food like?The city of Lampang is well known for it is famous named `kow daan` deep-fried rice cakes that are flavored with watermelon juice and drizzled in palm sugar. At the Khun Manee factory off Ratsada (look for the white sight lit with green letters) visitors can watch the delicious desserts being made and pick up a few bags to devour.
The many markets found in the city of Lampang are filled with some of the most delicious street food in all of Thailand including interesting items like deep browned worms. There are traditional Thai style eateries all over the city many serving up Thai Curries, Pad Thai, and other delicious northern Thai dishes.
What is the nightlife like?Lampang`s nightlife is mainly focused around the Riverside where many busy restaurants and bars are concentrated. The Chiang Mai Riverside Restaurant is a charming establishment offering Thai and continental cuisine along with live music in a relaxing riverside atmosphere. Night Markets are plentiful in Lampang, brimming with shopping and dining opportunities along with an authentic ambiance.
I don`t speak Thai will there be many people who speak English?The official language spoken in Thailand is Thai, however, English is widely spoken by people working in the service and tourism industries. We recommend that you get a good English-Thai guidebook and familiarize yourself with a few common phrases, such as hello, goodbye, please and thank you, excuse me and numbers 1-10.
