How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The island of Boracay is served by two airports both located in Aklan: Kalibo International Airport and Boracay Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport or Caticlan Airport).

Boracay Airport is the main gateway to the island located in Malay situated at the northern tip of Panay Island. Boracay island is separated from Panay Island by a narrow strait. From the airport, it takes about 1 hour to reach the island of Boracay including a boat trip. The Caticlan Port is located 5 minutes away from the airport and can be reached via a moto tricycle from the airport. From Caticlan Port take the regular boat that operates from 5:00 am until 10:30 pm, once at the Boracay`s Cagban Pier take another moto tricycle to reach your hotel. The entire transfer should cost around PHP 200 per adult.

Kalibo International Airport is the second airport serving the island of Boracay located on Panay Island. The airport is situated 42 miles south of the Caticlan Port and will take around 2 hours to reach Boracay. Taxis from the airport cost around PHP 1,100 and buses cost around PHP 650 to the Caticlan Port then the boat ride to Boracay costs around PHP 100. A moto tricycle from the Cagban Pier to your hotel should cost around PHP 25 or PHP 150 per tricycle.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

There are moto tricycles to transport you from the airport to the Caticlan Port, which takes around 10 minutes and costs around PHP 25 per passenger or PHP 150 per tricycle. Once you have collected your luggage then proceed out of the only exit where there will be a line of vans and tricycles ready to take passengers to Caticlan Jetty, where you ride the boat to Boracay.

How do I get from the pier to my hotel?

Once you arrive at the Boracay Cagban Jetty Port you can take a moto tricycle to your hotel which will cost approximately PHP 35 per person.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

Once you are in the main beach area of Boracay at White Beach it is possible to get around on foot. There is a sand covered path lined by restaurants, bars, and shops on one side and palm trees and the popular beaches on the other. Walking between Station 1, 2, 3 and the three main beaches of White Beach where the main restaurants, bars, shops, and nightlife can be found. It is also possible to walk from White Beach to Bulabog Beach on the East coast which is just over a mile in length.

The main forms of transportation on the island include pedicabs, moto tricycles, E-Trikes, and hotel shuttles. Pedicabs run along the walking strip by White Beach costing around PHP 10 - 100. Tricycles run along the main roads and cost about PHP 10 - 100.

There are rental companies located along the main road and by D`Mall where bicycles, scooters, and motorbikes are available and prices start around PHP 50 - 200 per hour

Being an island there are many boats that transport visitors to the neighboring islands and beaches situated all around the island. Paraws and Banca boats can be rented for a day at sea, island hopping tours, sunset cruises, etc and prices can run around PHP 1,000 for two guests.

There is a hop-on, hop-off bus tour offered the tourists visiting Boracay. This is a new service offered since the re-opening of the island at the end of 2018 and will cost approximately PHP 300 for a three-day unlimited pass.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

The main area for shopping on the island of Boracay can be found at the main commercial district at White Beach where gift shops, boutiques, and souvenir stalls are found. The popular D`Mall is located near Station 2, a small complex is lined with stalls selling beachwear, accessories and more and also offers restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and coffee shops.

What are the most popular beaches to visit?

White Beach is the main attraction and the location of most of the accommodations, restaurants, shops, and nightlife. There are three sections to the popular White Beach that are named Station 1, 2 and 3 also broken down as north, middle and south, each offering their own different attractions and personality. The beach here is wide and many of the accommodations sit along the shoreline or nestled in the side of the rocks boating beautiful scenery and views of the blue azure waters. Station 1 features an abundance of luxury resorts and hotels, Section 2 is the commercial heart of the island where plenty of shopping, eating and partying can be found, Station 3 is the quieter of the three and less developed providing guests with an idyllic tropical getaway.

Puka `Shell` Beach is situated in the northern tip of the island, a beautiful long stretch of white sands covered in crushed `Puka` shells and sparkling blue azure waters. This area is the definition of a tropical island getaway and is relatively quiet and untouched with a few restaurants and vendors selling snacks and refreshments on the sand. Puka Beach offers some nice accommodations situated within close proximity to the beach and other attractions, the most notable is the ultra-luxurious Shangri-La Boracay Resort and Spa nestled in the side of the rock providing a unique location with stunning views.

Bulabog Beach runs parallel to White Beach situated on the east side of the Island. This beach stretches for about a mile and is protected by a vibrant coral reef situated about 1,500 feet offshore. This area offers a laid back old island atmosphere and is less developed than White Beach offering some fantastic resorts with quiet surroundings and less developed than the other coast. The D`Mall shopping center is situated just 5 minutes away along with restaurants, bars, shops, and nightlife.

Baling Hai Beach is a small serene cove situated just to the north of Diniwid Beach with a peacefully relaxed environment. The beach here is secluded and found at the bottom of a cliff in the cove which makes it the ultimate beach destination for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and relaxation. Baling Hai is where the luxurious Balinghai Beach Resort can be found at the top of the cliff boasting spectacular views and accommodations and the cliff top restaurant.

Diniwid Beach is located within walking distance to White Beach, Station 1 and can be reached by a small walkway between the cliffs. The beach here is small and peaceful with a few accommodations and villas along with restaurants including the popular Spider House Restaurant with a bar built into the cliffside and Nami Restaurant which was named the best in Boracay (2013).

When are some festivals and competitions held in Boracay?

The Boracay International Funboard is held for 6 days in late January at Bulabog Beach, a windsurfing competition that has been in effect since 1988. Spectators get free admission to the competition which also includes kiteboarding and features world-class competitors.

The Boracay Food Festival is held in mid-May for multiple days featuring food, music, and dancing with local and national dishes to try. The festivals the main highlight is the cooking competition with chefs competing to create the most delicious dishes.

The Kiteboarding and Windsurfing Championships are held from November through January.

The Boracay Dragon Boat Festival is a 2-day extravaganza with exciting races between local teams, taking place in late April.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The currency in Boracay is the peso, PHP or a simple P in front of the amount. US dollars are not accepted. Please be sure to have the correct currency on hand and be prepared to exchange your dollars to pesos upon arrival. Currency exchange desks can be found at the airport and bank locations throughout the city, ATM`s are widespread.

ATM`s are located along the Main Road, on the beach path at White Beach and around D`Mall.

When is a popular time to visit?

Boracay`s peak season is from mid-October through mid-June during `amihan` season when the prevailing winds blow in from the east and create wonderful warm weather on the western side of the island where the sheltered White Beach is located. The water off White beach at this time of year is like glass, crystal clear and smooth making it the greatest place to be for swimming, snorkeling, diving and water sports. On the Eastern side of the island, the winds come onshore and create some of the best surf and kiteboarding conditions at the popular Bulabog Beach.

What is the food like?

The cuisine found on the island of Boracay features delicious fresh caught fish and seafood along with international fare including Indian, Italian, Thai, French and Western-style food. Korean and Filipino are the main cuisines found on the island.

There are plenty of places to eat many of which are beachside locations found along the sandy pedestrian path behind White Beach. Here visitors will find delicious local snacks, burgers, smoothies and seafood joints. The food court found at D`Mall is also very popular with a variety of restaurants offering all kinds of different cuisine.

One great concept on Boracay is to visit the D`Talipapa seafood market where you can shop for delectable fresh-caught fish and seafood and take your purchase to one of the nearby restaurants where they will cook them for you.

Many of the fantastic restaurants on the island can be found at the exclusive resorts such as Vintana at Shangri-La`s Boracay Resort. This stylish restaurant offers delicious Filipino cuisine served in an upscale environment with terrace seating.

Solana Restaurant also found in the Shangri-La Resort features large wooden cliff side terraces and cabanas for outdoor lounging along with tables around fire pits. This is a superb location for sunset cocktails and tapas and must try deserts.

Mesa Filipino Moderne is part of the Henann Regency Resort location on White Beach, a fabulous contemporary style eatery serving up delicious local cuisine. Another great location on the beachfront to watch a sunset and sip on cocktails.

Nestled on top of a cliff is Wrap `n Roll found at Spider House Resort near Diniwid Beach. This is a popular restaurant for locals and tourists with the spectacular outdoor terrace overlooking the sparkling sea.

What is the nightlife like?

The tropical beach destination of Boracay has plenty to offer when it comes to a great nightlife scene. There are endless bars and clubs found along the beachfront and throughout the island to keep the party going until the wee hours. Many visitors start their evening with happy hour on White Beach and watch the sunset from beanbags or loungers set on the sand. Some of the bars on White Beach offer a happy hour from 4 pm until 9 pm with buy one get one free special. There are clubs and discos such as Epic and Summer Place that stay open until 5 am and live bands and DJ`s can be found every night.

The Boracay Pub Crawl is a popular pastime offered four times a week that takes participants to 3 bars, 2 clubs and includes 10 shots costing around PPH 990 per person.

Is Boracay a safe place?

Boracay is known as one of the safest places to travel to. Crimes against visitors are practically unheard of. Keep your wits about you and practice street smarts when out sightseeing.

I don`t speak Filipino will there be many people who speak English?

There are a few different languages spoken on the island of Boracay, which include Filipino and Ilonggo, which are widely spoken throughout the island. Tagalog is used in the north, especially in Manila and Aklanon is the local dialect and considered the real Boracay language. English is widely spoken in the main tourist areas including beachside accommodations, eateries, and rental places. We suggest you get a good English - Filipino guidebook and familiarize yourself with common phrases such as hello, goodbye, please, thank you and numbers 1-10.

What should I do if I need medical assistance or need to go to the hospital?

If you need emergency services while in Japan dial 166 or 135 for the police or 194 or 198 to call an ambulance or report a fire and dial 141 for emergency hospital.
