Chiang Rai is a pretty small town filled with plenty of accommodations and activities that are easily reached on foot. The downtown area features a great selection of hotels and other lodgings along with restaurants, cafes, and shops to explore. The popular landmark in downtown is the golden clock tower, which is a huge attraction at night when the light and sound show goes on display. The area around the clock tower, Jet Yod Road is a good place to check out some nightlife in Chiang Mai with a good selection of bars, as well as the area near the bustling Night Bazaar market found don Phaholyothin Road.

Staying in downtown Chiang Rai gives guests access to trips and tours to visit the Hill tribe regions in the area along with the many sacred temples and the Golden Triangle. Downtown is a great location to get out and see the sights of the ancient Lanna city with many museums and architecture. The streets of Chiang Rai are bursting with delicious Thai street food along with a wide array of international cuisine, the coffee shops here serve up Thailands freshest brew from coffee and tea plantations found in the countryside close by.
