Day 1 on Easter Island

Welcome to Easter Island! Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and get out to explore the city! There is so much for you to see and do!

We recommend you get acquainted the town of Hanga Roa, head straight to Ahu Tautira to see the magnificent moai statues the island is famous for. This ancient site overlooks the Caleta Hanga Roa fishing port and sits at the foothills of Av Te Pito o Te Henua. Visit one of the restaurants here boasting breathtaking ocean views.

Stroll around Hanga Roa and visit the local shops for some unique souvenirs to take home. Visit the Museo Antropologico Sebastian Englert and discover the historical background of the most remote island in the world.

Take the coastal path that leads you to the Rano Kau Volcano which is the largest and most impressive extinct volcano on the island, standing at 1,062 feet tall in the southwestern corner of the island. A path leads visitors around the stunning coast and around the circular crater measuring almost a mile in diameter with a freshwater lake inside.

Visit the ceremonial stone village of Orongo, not far from Rano Kau on the edge of a cliff where a collection of stone houses stand looking out over the sea. The village is the site where the Tapati Rapa Nui festival took place and the ancient Birdman competition involving climbing and swimming to the offshore island to retrieve the first bird egg of the season.

Visit Vinapu the archaeological site on an extensive esplanade where two ahu platforms with moai statues with top knots stand. There are six fallen statues here laying face down, it is part of the Rapa Nui National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and important site recognized for its rock wall.

As evening time approaches make your way to the Tahai Ceremonial Complex, the oldest settlement on Rapa Nui and one of the most interesting places on the island combining archaeological remains of great historical importance along with beautiful breathtaking landscapes and views over the edge of the cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. The early remains here date back to 700 AD with three restored `ahu` (ceremonial platforms) here Ko Te Riku, Tahai, and Vai Ure stand with their backs towards the ocean. This is the best location on the island to sit and watch the sunset! You will be in awe as the sun sinks down and creates dramatic silhouettes of the statues.

Check out one of the local restaurants of Hanga Roa many are located on the main street or close to the harbor with traditional food including Tuna Ahi and lobster straight from the Pacific. After dinner, enjoy a pisco sour and take in the laid-back ambiance of the island under the sparkling milky way sky.

Day 2 on Easter Island

Start your day early with a trip to Ahu Tongariki and watch a once in a lifetime captivating sunrise. There are 15 moai statues that stand here on the edge of a cliff-lined up on a 200-foot long platform, some standing 45 feet tall. As the rising sun peeks through these magnificent statues it creates some awe-inspiring shadows across the landscapes and provides visitors with dramatic photo opportunities. The heaviest moai ever erected stands here and weighs in at 86 tonne.

Visit the impressive landmark of Rano Raraku along the southeast coast, home to the ancient volcano and the largest and most important archaeological site on the island where 95% of the iconic `moai` were carved. El Gante is the largest known moai standing 71 feet tall weighing 270 tons. Enjoy the spectacular views from the top of the 300-foot crater that features a lagoon in it and 20 standing moai.

42% of Easter Island is comprised by the Rapa Nui National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with archaeological sites, volcanic cones, `ahu` burial sites, beaches, and moai statues. Tour groups are the best way to see the sights within the National Park, there is an entrance fee.

After a busy morning exploring the ancient sites make your way to Anakena `The Beach` on Easter Island. There are three beaches total on the island and Anakena is the crown jewel and tropical paradise with soft white sand and warm sparkling blue water surrounded by lush green grass and swaying palm trees. Grab some lunch at the beachside kiosks run by local families serving up BBQ, skewered meat, local fish, empanadas and local Mahina beer.

Relax on the beach where 8 moai`s stand, the 7 moai`s of Ahu Nau Nau and the lone moai of Ahu Ature, along with rocky headlands on either side that provide shelter and dramatic scenery. The waters are tropically warm all year long and crystal clear making swimming, snorkeling and kayaking popular activities.

Visit some of the extensive caves on the island, the most visited is Ana Kakenga. A 31-mile long volcanic tube that was formed thousands of years ago, situated along the coast known as the `Cave of the two Windows` with tow unique openings on the side of a cliff boasting stunning views over the Pacific. Have fun exploring the massive cave and capture a sunset through one of the windows! A truly magnificent experience.

Make your way back to town for another delicious meal at one of the local restaurants. Some of the Chilean staples on the island include empanadas and ceviche accompanied by a glass of fine Chilean wine.

Day 3 on Easter Island

On your last morning on the island head back to Anakena Beach to see the magnificent moai here lit up by the morning sun. The beach here is a great place to start off your day with a nice walk and a dip in the warm turquoise waters. Head back to town for some breakfast and head out on your last adventure.

Spend your last day exploring the great outdoors of this spectacular island. There are many ways to explore including horseback riding, a fun energetic way to spend a few hours seeing the sights, with the ease to stop and take pictures along the way.

Hiking and trekking on the volcanic mountainous terrain of Rapa Pui is another great way to get outdoors and enjoy spectacular sights and scenery including the rocky coastline, towering moai, and soaring volcanos.

Renting a mountain bike is a great option for getting around the island and working up a sweat. The island is hilly and will take you around 2 hours to cross from one side to the other. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and stop to see the wild horses and other sights along the way.

You can also rent scooters or motorbikes on the island, both rentals will require a valid motorbike license. ATV`s are an exhilarating way to get around and see the sights.

There are also options for diving and boat tours in the beautiful Pacific Ocean, take a day trip on the waters and do some fishing or diving to discover the underwater world in the clear blue waters.

Spend your last evening enjoying a stunning sunset and watch the milky way light up the night sky. For your last meal with spectacular ocean views at the Kaloa restaurant in Hangaroa Eco Village and Spa serving delicious food.

After dinner, attend a traditional Polynesian dance show. The entertaining Rapa Nui folkloric show plays three nights a week featuring native music, dance and elaborate costumes. The Kari Kari dance troupe put on the best show that lasts for 90 minutes.

Additional Days on Easter Island

If you are able to spend additional days in Easter Island be sure to visit during the two-week-long Tapati Rapa Nui Festival (late January, early February). The festival features all kinds of events including horse racing, surfing, dancing, singing, and traditional arts and crafts. It is the largest Polynesian festival in the world, so be sure to book your flights and accommodation in advance.

Your Last Day on Easter Island

Depart from your hotel to the airport for your return flight home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer to the airport if so the representative will meet you at your hotel with plenty of time to get you to the airport for your flight out.
