Chania is a delightful town nestled between mountains and sea. It has a unique charm since the Venetians and Turks effectively stamped the old town in their own image. Its Old Town is considered the most beautiful urban district on Crete. The heart of the touristic activities in the area is the main square of the Old Town. The Topanas area is very picturesque, with many narrow alleys and old charming buildings, some of which have been restored as hotels, restaurants, shops and bars. Crete Island - Rethymnon
Rethymnon is located on the western side of Crete, between Chania and Heraklion. It is full of magnificent beaches, interesting archaeological sites, Byzantine churches, lovely villages and lively resorts. Rethymnonn Town is the capital, a town with intense medieval architecture and a lovely Venetian port. Walk around the Old Town and explore the stone paths, the elegant mansions, the lovely arches and certainly the Venetian port. This is the most popular spot of the Town, lined up by delicious restaurants and nice cafeterias. Above the town, there is a strong medieval castle called Fortezza. The northern and southern coasts are dotted with fabulous beaches. Bali, Panormos and Adelianos Kampos on the northern side get pretty popular in summer, while Plakias and Agia Galini are the most tourist places in the southern side. Crete Island - Agios Nikolaos (Lassithi)
Agios Nikolaos is the capital town of the prefecture of Lassithi in Crete. Located on the eastern side of Crete, Lassithi is the least tourist region of the island. Although it has some popular places, including Elounda, Sissi, Sitia and Ierapetra, the rest of the region is authentic and away from mass tourism. The best beach of Lassithi is Vai, an amazing place with impressive palm forest and crystal water. Very interesting are also the traditional villages in the Plateau of Lassithi, keeping all the local customs and a calm pace of life. A drive around will bring you to ancient sites and Medieval Castles, such as the Minoan palace of Zakros and the famous island of Spinalonga.
