WHAT TO EXPECT
Begin your tour with hotel pickup (if option selected) that will take you to the Special Tours ticket office in the Old Harbour. If pickup is not selected, the meeting point is the ticket office in the Old Harbour. After checking in, put on your warm overalls and safety gear and listen to your guide's safety speech before boarding a brand-new 12m custom-built RIB express boat. The new RIB boat features special shock-absorbing seats that make your tour more comfortable and stable. This 2 hour tour will take you out to the whale's feeding grounds in search of humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Take in the beautiful scenery around you in Faxaflói Bay on the way out, including the famous Esja mountain. During the summer months when the puffins are in Iceland for their nesting season you will stop by Akurey, one of the most popular nesting islands. The colorful rhyolite mountains and some small hot springs scattered all over close to Brennisteinsalda with a mystical steam rising up from them. When returning to the huts, after about two hours of hiking, there still is enough time to take a bath in the natural pool.

The ATV adventure begins soon after sunset when the land is swathed in darkness and excitement fills the air. Our trusted partners take care of part one, ensuring that participants are properly instructed at Base camp for an experience that is as safe as it is fun.

After getting to grips with the ATV vehicles, the ATV convoy heads out on the trails for a full hour of fun and excitement. WHAT TO EXPECT

Following a pickup at your Reykjavik hotel, meet your guide and take the 15-minute journey to the quad biking base outside the city.

On arrival, listen to a safety briefing and pull on your helmet, then hop onto your quad bike and head into the countryside with your guide.

We will drive the ATV´s to the Lake Hafravatn to have a short Kodak moment and perhaps look at some Horses the bird Lagopus/Ptarmigan and even some Arctic Foxes that sometimes show up to look at the birds on the way up to the Hafrafell mountain. There you will enjoy an amazing view of Reykjavik, Mosfellsbær and other towns from high in the hills and there, you can see the lava that came out of the volcano very close to Hafnafjordur many years ago and perhaps a sign of the ash and smoke from the active Volcano in Geldingadalur in Reykjanes peninsula.

Then after all the fresh air from the montain we return to base for the onward journey back to your Reykjavik hotel. Activity last about 2,5 hour with pickup and return.

Waterfall Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss is one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. This 66m (213ft) high waterfall is not the most powerful waterfall in Iceland but extremely beautiful. What makes it special, though, is the fact that you can walk behind it. Just remember to bring rain gear with you because it is not unlikely that spray from the waterfall will catch you.

Gigjokull Glacier
By now you have entered the beautiful Surroundings of Thorsmork. Gigjokull is an outlet that flows from Eyjafjallajokull. Previously, there was a glacial lagoon underneath the glacier, which was one of the gems of Thorsmork, but it got destroyed in the famous 2010 Eyjafjalla volcanic eruption. therefore today it is possible to drive on the former bottom of the lagoon almost up to the glacier.

Valahnukur
Here we hike! Hiking up Valahnukur is relatively easy 220m (722ft) ascent hike and takes about an hour and a half. When you are up there you are standing in an elevation of around 1000m (3300ft) with a spectacular view over valleys and gorges covered with moss and birch forest, glacial rivers and the glaciers Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajokull.

Basar is one of the most beautiful and sheltered areas in the Thorsmork - an oasis of natural birch woods. It is a wonderland for hikers with hiking trails and paths in all directions, through valleys and gorges with delicate birch forest, glacial rivers and magnificent mountain scenery.

The tour will cover different vistas of Iceland from black beach views to lava filled terrain. We will visit Krýsuvík and the famous protestant church Strandarkirkja. Our horses are extremely gentle and easy to steer.
Itinerary

rom Þorlákshöfn (Thorlaks Harbour) you will ride west, towards the beautiful lava fields of Krýsuvík. Krýsuvík is also famous for its geothermal activity (not surprisingly in amongst all the lava), so youll see some white strokes of steam rising from the ground in the distance. You might also see some impressive views of both mountains and the sea.

You will also visit a small church, Strandakirkja, thats well known in Iceland. This is a protestant church from the 12th century, with beautiful views towards the ocean, and youll be sure to see some impressive waves crashing on the cliffs nearby, especially on windy days. Close by is a small café where you, and the horses, can have a little rest and have some snacks. Then its time to return to base.

This tour is four hours long and only intended for experienced riders as it is of medium difficulty.

The Glorious Gullfoss
Gullfoss waterfall is a part of the glacial river Hvita which gets its water from Langjokull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. The step-waterfall is quite the sight, and from many viewpoints it looks like the waterfall falls straight into an abyss, but in reality, it falls into a crevice which is 32 metres deep.

The Magic of Thingvellir (Thingvellir)
The last stop of the day is at Thingvellir which is known for being one of the very few places in the world where you can see the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates above ground (other places are all in Iceland). The park is a UNESCO world heritage site. You will arrive back in Reykjavik at 16:30.

Experience the Northern Lights
You will have a few hours to spend before you join our northern lights tour at 20:00 (16 October - 28 February), 21:00 (1 March - 14 March) or at 22:00 (25 August - 15 October & 15 March - 15 April). The three-hour long northern lights tour will take you out of the city for the best possible view of the lights. The northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. The locations visited during the northern lights tour vary from day to day depending on weather conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

On the way out of Reykjavik, take Nesjavellir Road and stop in the Nesavellir geothermal region. The volcano here makes the area the warmest in the capital. Continue to Þhingvellir National Park, which includes the fault line between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The park is also home to the world's oldest democratic parliament and an ancient church.

Drive through the town of Laugarvatn on the way to visit the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every 6 to 8 minutes. Here, take a break for lunch or coffee (own expense) before proceeding to see the lovely waterfall called Gullfoss.

Stop at the Kerið crater, then visit the town of Hveragerði before continuing down to the Reykanes peninsula. Bring your swim suit for the visit to the famous Blue Lagoon, located near Grindavík. PART 2 HELICOPTER RIDE OVER REYKJAVÍK!

After we conquer the off-road territory, well drop you off with our friends at Norðurflug Tours.
