WHAT TO EXPECT

After hotel pickup in Reykjavik, travel to your buggy station just outside the city. Listen to a safety briefing from a friendly and fun guide, don the provided thermal coveralls, helmet and gloves, and climb inside your comfortable buggy with your companion. Each buggy takes two people, a driver and a passenger, and the price is based on two people per vehicle.

Get instructions on driving your 2-seater buggy and when you and your passenger are ready, fasten your safety buckles for your thrilling 1-hour off-road ride.

Follow your guide around lowland trails that snake between the mountains, trundling across rocky lava fields and splashing through mud, water and even snow.

Feel close to nature as you head along the trails, and be ready for a new challenge at every turn there's a huge variety of terrain to conquer.

Stop for photos at a pristine lake along the way, and then make your way back to base, picking up speed as your confidence builds. If you're eager for more, upgrade to a 2- or 3-hour buggy adventure.

We sometimes need to wait for the Northern lights to appear, and even change location over the evening. The guide is always in contact with our office and other locals for details on where the visibility is best each evening in case they need to change location. We always try to go where the crowds are not, but can not always guarantee that others looking for the Northern lights will not show up at the same spot.

Begin your tour with hotel pickup (if option selected) that will take you to the Special Tours ticket office in the Old Harbour. If pickup is not selected, the meeting point is the ticket office in the Old Harbour. After checking in, put on your warm overalls and safety gear and listen to your guide's safety speech before boarding a brand-new 12m custom-built RIB express boat. The new RIB boat features special shock-absorbing seats that make your tour more comfortable and stable. This 2 hour tour will take you out to the whale's feeding grounds in search of humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Take in the beautiful scenery around you in Faxaflói Bay on the way out, including the famous Esja mountain. The colorful rhyolite mountains and some small hot springs scattered all over close to Brennisteinsalda with a mystical steam rising up from them. When returning to the huts, after about two hours of hiking, there still is enough time to take a bath in the natural pool.

WHAT TO EXPECT

ATV Tour

Following hotel pickup in downtown Reykjavik, transfer to the ATV center to meet your adventure guide and get set up with your gear. Listen to a short safety briefing and instruction on how to operate your ATV, then don the provided thermal overalls, rain gear, helmets, balaclavas and gloves. Climb on to your ATV and set off through the frozen tundra. Ride along the shore of Hafravatn Lake at dusk and ascend the impressive Hafrafjall Mountain. Follow off-road trails through deep snow as the darkness falls and enjoy panoramic views over the Icelandic landscape from the top of the mountain.

Golden Circle Tour

Board a comfortable coach around midday and head out of town to explore the Golden Circle's most important sites. After the morning spent quad biking, you'll welcome the chance to rest your legs.

Thingvellir National Park is the site of the worlds first parliament over 1000 years ago. meeting place of two tectonic plates, an area of natural beauty. Thingvellir has about as much historical and geological significance as you can get. If you are in Iceland, you have to visit Thingvellir.

See the bubbling mud pools, steaming, sulfurous smells, and exploding water towers at Geysir. Strokkur geyser shoots boiling water high into the air every 8-10 minutes, so have your camera at the ready.

The ATV adventure begins soon after sunset when the land is swathed in darkness and excitement fills the air. Our trusted partners take care of part one, ensuring that participants are properly instructed at Base camp for an experience that is as safe as it is fun.

After getting to grips with the ATV vehicles, the ATV convoy heads out on the trails for a full hour of fun and excitement. Riding across the beautiful and rugged Icelandic landscape, the course is set for the summit of Mt. Hafrafell where the group will enjoy the views over Reykjavik before embarking on an exciting Northern Lights tour.

The next stop is the Bus Terminal, where the Northern Lights tour bus is boarded and the hunt for the Aurora begins. WHAT TO EXPECT

Following a pickup at your Reykjavik hotel, meet your guide and take the 15-minute journey to the quad biking base outside the city.

On arrival, listen to a safety briefing and pull on your helmet, then hop onto your quad bike and head into the countryside with your guide.

We will drive the ATV´s to the Lake Hafravatn to have a short Kodak moment and perhaps look at some Horses the bird Lagopus/Ptarmigan and even some Arctic Foxes that sometimes show up to look at the birds on the way up to the Hafrafell mountain. There you will enjoy an amazing view of Reykjavik, Mosfellsbær and other towns from high in the hills and there, you can see the lava that came out of the volcano very close to Hafnafjordur many years ago and perhaps a sign of the ash and smoke from the active Volcano in Geldingadalur in Reykjanes peninsula.

Then after all the fresh air from the montain we return to base for the onward journey back to your Reykjavik hotel. Activity last about 2,5 hour with pickup and return.

The Valley of Thor, or Thorsmork (Thorsmork) in Icelandic, is a nature reserve in the southern highlands, located between three glaciers:

Eyjafjallajokull (the famous glacier volcano that erupted in 2010 and caused widespread disruption to air traffic in Europe), Myrdalsjokull and Tindfjallajokull. Thorsmork is a place of diverse and magnificent landscape with its ice capped peaks, jagged mountain ridges and valleys rich with moss and birch woodland.

Beautiful Surroundings of Thorsmork is a super 4x4 tour with an optional easy/moderate 90 minute hike.

Highlights:
Waterfall Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss is one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. This 66m (213ft) high waterfall is not the most powerful waterfall in Iceland but extremely beautiful. What makes it special, though, is the fact that you can walk behind it. Just remember to bring rain gear with you because it is not unlikely that spray from the waterfall will catch you.

Gigjokull Glacier
By now you have entered the beautiful Surroundings of Thorsmork. Gigjokull is an outlet that flows from Eyjafjallajokull. Previously, there was a glacial lagoon underneath the glacier, which was one of the gems of Thorsmork, but it got destroyed in the famous 2010 Eyjafjalla volcanic eruption. therefore today it is possible to drive on the former bottom of the lagoon almost up to the glacier.

Valahnukur
Here we hike! Hiking up Valahnukur is relatively easy 220m (722ft) ascent hike and takes about an hour and a half. When you are up there you are standing in an elevation of around 1000m (3300ft) with a spectacular view over valleys and gorges covered with moss and birch forest, glacial rivers and the glaciers Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajokull.

The tour will cover different vistas of Iceland from black beach views to lava filled terrain. We will visit Krýsuvík and the famous protestant church Strandarkirkja. Our horses are extremely gentle and easy to steer.
Itinerary

rom Þorlákshöfn (Thorlaks Harbour) you will ride west, towards the beautiful lava fields of Krýsuvík. Krýsuvík is also famous for its geothermal activity (not surprisingly in amongst all the lava), so youll see some white strokes of steam rising from the ground in the distance. You might also see some impressive views of both mountains and the sea.

You will also visit a small church, Strandakirkja, thats well known in Iceland. This is a protestant church from the 12th century, with beautiful views towards the ocean, and youll be sure to see some impressive waves crashing on the cliffs nearby, especially on windy days. Close by is a small café where you, and the horses, can have a little rest and have some snacks. Then its time to return to base.

Then, rumble down rocky lava trails behind your guide and climb Úlfarsfell Mountain. WHAT TO EXPECT

Depart your Reykjavik hotel and travel to the buggy station on the citys outskirts. On arrival, listen to a safety briefing, put on the supplied helmet, thermal coveralls, and gloves, and hop inside your comfortable, 2-seater buggy with your companion. Each buggy seats a driver and a passenger, and the price is based on two people per vehicle.

Once in your buggy, get instructions on driving, and when you and your passenger feel ready, clip on your safety buckles, and start out on your exhilarating 2-hour mountain tour.

Traveling behind your guide, head out along lowland trails through rocky lava fields, muddy pools and water and snow. Be prepared for a different challenge around each bend theres a wide variety of terrains to tackle. Then, put your foot on the gas pedal and steel your nerves as you start on a demanding ascent of Úlfarsfell Mountain.

Follow your guide up the mountainside, and thrill as you conquer the final ridge to arrive at the summit. Then, pull up to take in the spectacular views over Reykjavik, the North Atlantic Ocean and imperious Esja Mountain towering in the distance.

Next, descend the slopes and stop to admire the epic landscapes that surround Hafravatn Lake, all beautifully reflected in the mirror-glass waters.

After about two hours of exploring in your buggy, rumble back to base, feeling exhausted but elated. Your experience then concludes with a drop-off back at your Reykjavik hotel.

If you want a longer buggy adventure and to test your driving skills further, upgrade to the more challenging extreme 3-hour ride.

Please note: children aged six years and over are permitted to ride as a buggy passenger.

A BUGGY TOUR WITH STUNNING MOUNTAIN VIEWS
You start driving your buggy on a lonely trail in the backlands of Reykjavik. Following the trail, you will reach Hengill mountain range and Hellisheiðarvirkjun, the power plant for Reykjavik. Your guide will lead you to an area that looks like the moon. The first stop will be at the geothermal area next to the geothermal power plant. The area was a film location for the movie The secret life of Walter Mitty. After your stop, you head back closer to Reykjavik. You are taking a gravel road into the stunning Blue Mountains. The next stop is Vífilsfell mountain, named after a slave of Ingólfur Arnarson, the first permanent settler in Iceland.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Begin your half-day Lava Caving and ATV Quad adventure from Reykajvik with pick-up from your centrally located hotel, then head to your base camp just 15 minutes outside of the city. After learning to drive your all-terrain vehicle, fasten your helmet and hop aboard for an exhilarating and fast-paced adventure.

Follow your guide on a thrilling 1-hour circuit and get your adrenaline pumping as you tackle challenging terrain, zoom along dirt trails and splash across rocky river crossings. Climb to the summit of Hafrafell mountain and pause to take in spectacular views across the Reykjanes peninsula, Reykjavik and Hafravatn Lake.

After a short stop for lunch (own expense) en-route, arrive at the Leiðarendi lava cave and get suited up for an unforgettable caving excursion.
