Getting Around - Mendoza

Public transportation in Mendoza consists of buses, trolleybuses, taxis, and the Metrotranvia light rail system. The city’s public bus system is one of the best in the country, buses depart from various stops around the city on a frequent basis and also travel to the outlying wine regions. The Trole is the traditional electric bus in Mendoza, a SUBE card is required to ride the Trole. SUBE cards are available to purchase from kiosks the initial cost is around ARS10 and bus and tram rides cost about ARS20 per ride. The Avellaneda Station in the Panquehua neighborhood is the main bus terminal. Trolleybuses are not as extensive as the regular bus system, and not as fast, they offer a more comfortable way to travel. The El Troli is a fun and cheap way to get around the city it follows the main roads.

By Taxi

There are plenty of taxis available in the city. Taxis are inexpensive and generally safe, they are metered and fares start out around ARS23.50 and go up ARS23 per .60 miles. A taxi can be more expensive when hailed from the street so it is best to ask your hotel concierge to call a taxi for you. Uber is available in Mendoza, simply use the app on your smartphone.

By Car

If you are staying in the city then there is no need to rent a car as you can get around using public transportation and visit the wine regions with a driver and a car for the day. There are car rentals available at the airport and in the city center.

By Train

The Metrovania Mendoza is a light rail line in the city that covers 11 miles servicing the areas of Las Heras, Godoy Crus, and Maipu in the Greater Mendoza region, and the city center. The line runs from Avellaneda Station to Gutierrez in Maipu, it stops at the Mendoza Railway Station near the city center. The red railcars were actually purchased from the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System in 2010, they were built in 1980.

By Bicycle

There are plenty of opportunities to ride a bike in Mendoza. Parque San Martin is one, this is the main park in the city and it is massive with miles of biking trails that lead to lakes, gardens, and a restaurant. There are many other great locations across teh city that lead bikers to sights, attractions, and magnificent viewpoints. Riding a bike is a great way to tour some of the region's famous wineries and explore the region with breathtaking routes and views. There are many locations where visitors can rent a bicycle in the city as well as at wineries.

On Foot

Yes, walking around the city of Mendoza is easy as the beautiful tree-lined streets here are perfect for walking. The charming city center boasts five pretty square, four of which are laid out equidistant from each other and all surrounding Plaza Independencia which is the largest of the five, and the city’s central meeting place. Walking between all four plazas; Plaza Chile, Plaza San Martin, Plaza Italia, and Plaza Espana leads you to some great dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The historic center of the city is brimming with sights, parks, and museums, it's a great place to walk around and check out the central market and handicrafts markets in Plaza de la Independencia, and along Avenida San Martin which is the main thoroughfare in the city. Paseo Sarmiento is the pedestrian walking street that extends from Plaza Independencia to Avenida San Martin, and Avenida Emilio Civit which is the posh residential avenue that leads to the entrance of Parque San Martin which is filled with miles of walking paths.
