Located in the Caribbean Sea, Grand Cayman is the largest of the three islands in the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory. The main town is George Town, which also contains the main seaport and airport. The main tourist stretch is Seven Mile Beach, which straddles West Bay and George Town. The eastern part is much less dense.
After flying into Owen Roberts International Airport, if you have not booked a private transfer with us, you have a few options. Taxis are available at a fixed rate to all areas of the island. There is a taxi rank as soon as you exit the terminal. Hotels are not allowed courtesy shuttles. The Grand Cayman airport is close to Seven Mile Beach and will take you about 15 minutes.
Taxis are a convenient option for direct transportation with regulated fares. Taxis are not metered, be sure to agree on a fare prior to starting your journey or use the CI_GO Taxi App for accurate estimates. Taxis can be hailed on the street, and several taxi companies are available.
Renting a car is a popular way to get around Grand Cayman, especially if you are looking to explore the island and want to have more flexibility. Car rental companies are dotted around the Island. To rent a car, you need to be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and have a credit card for deposit.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?
There is a small walkable area of shops around the George Town Harbor.
The public bus system in Cayman is cost-effective, though less convenient. Daily services start at 6:00 am from the depot.
The legal drinking age in Grand Cayman is 18 years old. You cannot drink on the beach or have any open alcoholic container on the beach or in your car.
What is the weather like? When is the best time to visit?
The winter months (December - February) are usually warm and pleasant; this is the best time to go to Grand Cayman for reliable weather. Daily highs average 85°F and lows at 75°F. These months enjoy the least rainfall.
March - June are considered ta great time to visit with clear, calm waters making it perfect for snorkeling, diving, sailing, and fishing. In addition, this is typically when hotel rates go down. Just be prepared for a rain shower, this is the region's wet season, but it typically only lasts a few hours.
Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 until November 30 Hurricanes are not regular occurrences in the Caymans.
Is Grand Cayman a dangerous area? Are there areas I should stay away from?Grandy Cayman is generally considered a very safe area and other are no specific areas that tourists need to avoid. The crime rate is low, and most visitors are advised to simply take normal precautions like in any tourist destination.
Is it safe to drink water?The tap water in all three Cayman Islands is clean and safe to drink.
What is the local time zone?The Cayman Islands observes Eastern Standard Time all year. There are no Daylight Saving Time clock changes.
Can I pay/tip in US dollars? Is tipping expected?
The official currency of the Cayman Islands is the CI dollar (KYD). US dollars are widely accepted but you will probably receive change in KYD. Most stores, restaurants and resorts accept credit cards, which are always charged in US$.
ATMs can be found throughout the island at all bank branches and also at major supermarkets.
If gratuities are not already included, it is customary to tip 15-20 % for good service.
Grand Cayman restaurants specialize in everything from fine dining cuisine to delicious seafood caught offshore. You'll find a mix of Caribbean, Latin American, and British influences with a touch of international flair. Fresh fruits like mango, papaya, and pineapple are common in everything from salsas to smoothies, while cassava, plantains, and breadfruit are popular side dishes or snack options.
Try the local dishes such as turtle stew and Cayman-style beef, slow-cooked with spices. The island also has its own twist on traditional dishes, like cassava-heavy cakes and cornbread made with coconut milk.
Seafood is a favorite on the island. Try everything from raw tuna tartare to ceviche to sashimi and sushi as they are so fresh. Mah mahi and wahoo is a nice meaty fish that is often served blackened with risotto or in tacos.
You'll also find a range of international cuisines such as Italian, Thai, Japanese, Mexican and more. The island's upscale restaurants offer globally inspired dishes, and food from local food trucks is also popular.
We recommend having breathable, lightweight clothes for comfort and a good quality hat and sunglasses to protect against the tropical sun. Most people live in flip-flops during the day. For women, sarongs and simple sundresses are what many visitors wear around the resort pools, in beachside bars. Be sure to bring a jacket or sweater for the evening or when in the air conditioning.

The main hospital is The Cayman Islands Hospital (also called George Town Hospital) in George Town. It’s a modern facility offering comprehensive medical services, including emergency care. For non-emergency issues, urgent care centers in George Town and Seven Mile Beach are often quicker for minor illnesses or injuries.
