Day 1 in Hobart
Welcome to Hobart! Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!
Begin with a leisurely stroll around the city exploring the shops and scenery. You will find many dining options where you can sit back relax, enjoy lunch and some refreshments! Afterwards, we recommend that you get acquainted with the city by choosing an optional tour such as the `Hobart Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour` showcasing attractions like the fashionable Salamanca Place, historic Battery Point and Cascade Brewery.
As night time approaches, make your way down to Hobart Harbor which sits on the Derwent River. Here you will find many restaurant options featuring fresh caught local seafood with magical views of the waterfront. After dinner take a walk along the harbor front and stop in to some of the shops before retiring for the evening.
Day 2 in Hobart
Wake up early today, fuel up with coffee and breakfast for your first day of adventure! Head out to Mount Wellington which is around a 30 - 40 minute drive from Hobart. (You can opt to take a bus tour to the mountain from the city center for an additional fee). Drive up `Pinnacle Road` to the summit where you can enjoy amazing panoramic views of the city below and its waterways. There are plenty of historic walking and hiking trails available in the park along with forested gullies and wildlife.
From here, head north to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) around a 40 minute drive from Mount Wellington. Upon arrival enjoy lunch at their onsite café or restaurant. MONA is one of Australia`s most fascinating museums with varying exhibits including Egyptian mummies! Admire the museums exterior contemporary design then move inside to explore the collection of art and architecture. Be sure to check out the Madonna room!
After exploring the museum you can head to the onsite `Moorilla Winery` for some wine tasting. If you are on a bus tour you can catch the ferry (for an additional fee) back to Hobart and cruise down the Derwent River. Arriving back in the harbor you can enjoy another great place for dinner and the harbor nightlife including some live jazz.
Day 3 in Hobart
Today take a trip to Port Arthur which is located on the Tasman Peninsula about 65 miles south east of Hobart. By car the journey takes around an hour and a half so plan to spend at least 4-6 hours here, pack a lunch or grab some food on the drive. The area is known as Tasmania`s number one tourist attraction and is one of Australia`s historically rich and intriguing destinations with a haunting past. The area spans over 100 acres and is scattered with around 30, 19th century buildings and a fascinating museum.
On your journey back take a trip to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. These are Australia`s second oldest gardens and span over 35 acres featuring historic specimens with a large number of significant trees and beautiful plants. The Royal Tasmanian restaurant `Succulent` is located on site and open until 4pm where you can grab some food before the drive back to Hobart.
For your last evening, Hobart has a number of nightlife options including `Wrest Point Casino`, Australia`s first legal gambling club (smart, casual attire required - collared shirts for men). Catch a performance at the `Theatre Royal`, Australia`s oldest live theater built in 1837. `Irish Murphy`s` is a popular drinking hole in Salamanca Place where live bands play Sunday - Thursday evenings.
Additional Days in Hobart
Should you be able to spend additional days in Hobart then be sure to check out Bothwell. About an hour`s drive north of Hobart this small town is very charming and set on the picturesque Clyde River at the foothills of the Tasmanian highlands. If you enjoy golf then Bothwell is a must see, its claim to fame is the `Ratho` Australia`s oldest golf course it is also home to the `Australasian Golf Museum` and the `Nant Estate` whisky distillery.
If one of your additional days in Hobart is a Saturday be sure to check out the `Salamanca Markets` one of the best markets in Australia, held on Saturday mornings from 8:30am - 3pm with over 200 street stalls selling anything from local produce to crafts and wine.
Your Last Day in Hobart
Depart from your hotel to the airport for your return flight home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer to the airport, if so the representative will meet you at your hotel with plenty of time to get you to the airport for your flight out.
