We begin the tour by crossing a meadow or mallin, and then climbing the slopes of the mountain. After 30 minutes we have views of the Centinela River valley, Lake Argentino and Torres del Paine. The route continues uphill until reaching elevated fields at about 400 meters above sea level. Wrapped up warm, depart from your El Calafate hotel in the morning in a heated vehicle. Following a scenic drive past numerous Patagonian ranches, arrive at Lake Roca and board a boat for a scenic cruise.

Admire a unique combination of landscapes before your trek begins through the unspoiled virgin forests surrounding Lake Frias. On arrival at the lake, board a motorized boat and start the second part of your advanced hike after disembarkation.

In the Glacier National Park, sparkling shards of ice are juxtaposed with the vivid blue of the sky. Drink in the frozen tableau and ever-changing glacial landscape and gaze at the peaks of the Cubo, Grande, and Dickson glaciers.

Stop to revitalize with lunch at a scenic viewpoint before returning to the vehicle to warm up with mate tea, a Patagonian staple. Your tour ends with drop-off at your El Calafate hotel.

The tour begins departing from centrally located hotels in El Calafate at 8.00am.
We travel 50km through a rute full of Estancias (ranchs), until Lago Roca where we will embark on a small boat with a capacity for 15 people.

We will navigate 45 minutes enjoying the unique sights of the lake where the typical Patagonian steppe landscape mixes with the Antarctic and Lenga Beech forests.
We will arrive at the south end of the South Arm of the lake where the first stage of the trekking starts up to the Lago Frias. We will walk through an unexplored site, virgin forest and natural scenery will appear in front of our eyes. Once we reach the lake, we will embark on a motorize rubber boat to cross it and start the second stage of the trekking: the hike to the Grande Glacier, located at the extreme southwest of the park.

We will get to a magical place and enjoy a glacier valley with changing environments until we reach the amphitheater of glaciers which is a true timeline of the glacial era. In this spot we will have lunch with views of the Grande, Cubo and Dickson glaciers.

Once we finish our lunch, we will start our return through the same path.

After picking up the passengers from their central hotels from 7 am, we will head in a comfortable bus to the Port of Punta Bandera, located 47 km from El Calafate.

For those who select the non-transfer option, we will meet at the Port of Punta Bandera at 8:30 am to start sailing.

2: Lago Argentino

Once all passengers are on board, sailing begins on the North Arm of Lake Argentina at 9 am. We crossed the Devils Mouth to the Uppsala Canal, sailing between huge floes detached from the front of the Uppsala Glacier. As you enter the Spegazzini Canal, you will enjoy a panoramic view of various glaciers, with the opportunity to take pictures at designated stops to observe the imposing ice blocks.

3: Perito Moreno Glacier

Throughout the tour, passengers will have the opportunity to view several of the numerous glaciers found in Lago Argentino, including the Seco Glacier, the Spegazzini Glacier, the South Heim Glacier, and the Peineta Glacier. During navigation, you can admire the ice blocks from various angles, which will allow you to capture the best photographs.

4: Glaciar Spegazzini

We will disembark at La Base Spegazzini to trek through the 300-meter path through the forest to the Spegazzini Refuge. It is accessible and does not represent complexity since it is done on firm ground. Posting will be done at different stations (Glaciology - History - Fauna and Flora) with viewpoints overlooking the entire Bay of Glaciers. Once in the Refuge you can enjoy the gastronomy, the shop and an incredible panoramic view from its rooms and from the outside (Deck & Terrace). Another possibility is to take the mountain trail, of medium difficulty through a wooded path, with natural viewpoints, full of incredible views that ends at the landing point.

The excursion begins with the pick up at the hotels and continues with the vehicle to the Huyliche Hill, going up 35 kilometres on the hill line behind the village. From there, the 4WD will take you up to 900 meters towards a millenary geography and the best corners of Huylliche Hill. From there, you will arrive to a spectacular viewpoint, where youll see El Calafate city and the main body of the Argentinean Lake, surrounded by the mystical Patagonian steppe.
You can find a great amount of fossils and if it is a clear day, you can observe the Fit Roy Mount; in addition you can see Andean condors very close to you.
The perspective from there is unforgettable and you will see the Andes range, the entrance of the north branch of the Argentinean lake, discovering a glacier landscape.
The 4WD continues up to 1060 meters, where is the labyrinth of Cretaceous rocks with small fossils embedded in its walls.

From the Balcony, an imposing natural viewpoint, you can enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate and the central body of Lake Argentino. The route will offer us views of the Andes Mountain Range and the glacier accumulation zone, towards the Boca del Diablo (narrowest part of the lake, towards the Upsala arm) and if it is clear we will be able to observe the Fitz Roy and Torre hills in El Chalten. In addition, we will have the opportunity to see the flight of Condors. Depending on the excursion you choose during the walk, we will have a typical country lunch or snack. With two daily departures, the excursion departs from the hotels in El Calafate and completes a 35-kilometre journey over the line of hills located behind the town. The trail takes us through landscapes that amaze us with their varied high-altitude vegetation. It reaches up to 1050 meters above the sea. There, the first stop is a natural viewpoint where passengers enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate and the central body of Lake Argentino. In the background, the inevitable and imposing framework of the Andes Mountains and, at times during the tour, there are views of the accumulation zone of the glaciers, towards the Boca del Diablo (narrowest part of the lake, towards the Upsala arm) . Even with the help of the weather, it is possible to see the Fitz Roy and Torre hills in El Chaltén and, with some luck, perhaps the condor, master of the Patagonian skies, will be seen in its long glide. A unique show. Follow the path to the Stone Labyrinth, an attraction only accessible with Calafate Mountain Park. It is a formation from the Cretaceous period that dates back to 85 million years old. It was once the bed of a river: today we can find fossil remains that allow us to be witnesses today of that ancient past. We have a snack at the Huyliche confectionery and from there we begin the descent down the north slope of the hill to the Piedra de los Sombreros, curious iron concretions that are only found in four places in the world. After this trip to other eras in the history of the world, we return to El Calafate with our eyes always on the omnipresent Lake Argentino.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Set out from your El Calafate hotel with your packed lunch in the early morning. Board your coach for the journey to Los Glaciares National Park, listening to information about the adventure that lies ahead from your guide.

Arrive at Bajo Las Sombras harbor after two hours and board a boat for a 10-minute ride to Brazo Rico. Meet your local guide, who will issue your trekking equipment. Hike down the shore of Lago Argentino and through the forest along Brazo Rico to Perito Moreno's base.

Climb onto a viewing platform to get an awe-inspiring view of the 196-foot (60-meter) front wall of one of the world's only advancing glaciers. Listen to a safety briefing from your guide as you gaze out over the massive ice field. Put on your crampons and prepare to scale the glacier. Although this trek can be difficult, rest assured that with your guide leading the way, you can safely ascend the glacier's sloping surface.

Breathe the bracing air and learn about glaciology and geography from your guide. View waterfalls, lagoons, streams and caves formed by the constantly moving glacier's ice melt.

Pause to enjoy lunch at a scenic point, then retrace your steps to the glacier's edge, spending about 4 hours total on the ice. Return to the Rico Arm for the boat and bus journey back to El Calafate. Finish your day's adventure with drop-off at your hotel in El Calafate.

Take the Big Ice excursion, and have the opportunity to get delve into this enormous glacier. This tour suitable only for the most adventurous and, physically fit, as it requires a long ice trek through several rocky areas, as well as the use of harnesses.

After a scenic drive, you will arrive at Bajo de las Sombras Port where you will board a boat that will transport you across the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino. Soon you will reach the shore where you will disembark and meet the mountain guides who will escort the group towards the place where the crampons (special metal spikes worn on boots for traction) are selected.

Set off on your hike towards the glacier from the southern moraine until you reach a spectacular vantage point, an "entrance gate to heaven". This is where the real adventure begins. After fastening your crampons and buckling your harness, you will begin to explore the glacier from a unique perspective and soon discover blue lagoons, deep crevasses, huge drains and ice caves. You will be in awe at the size of one of the most famous glaciers in the world and learn about the characteristics of this giant ice sheet. The bus departs really early in the morning,with a bilingual guide (english/spanish) that will provide information about the surroundings and will accompany the group on their way to National Park Los Glaciares and during 1 hour in the runway visit. There youll have one of the best panoramic views of the glacier

Then back on the bus youll travel to Bajo las sombras port and will embark to sail 20 minutes by the Rico arm of the Argentinean lake.
Arriving on the other side of the lake, the front of Perito Morenos southern wall awaits us.

As we arrive at the shelter the group will be greeted by the expert mountain guides, who will divide us into subgroups and join us in the hike assisting wherever is necessary and helping us to interpret the landscape. At the beginning,well hike for 2 hours by the glaciers moraine from where we observe different panoramic views of the glacier and the woods.
Before our trekking on the glacier, the group shall stop to enjoy a picnic in the middle of nature. In this activity you won't find places to buy some food or beverage so you must bring it all the way from El Calafate.It is indispensable to the passengers to bring their food in the backpack.

4: Minitrekking Tour to Moreno Glacier

Once lunch is over and the ice access point is reached, guides will provide assistance with the helmet, harness and crampons to get started with our 3 hour long trekking. THE BIG ICE IS HIGHLY PERSONALIZED. The groups on the ice will be up to 10 people, accompanied by two mountain guides. During the tour on the glacier you will see cracks, lagoons, streams, seracs and, occasionally, ice caves.

Once in Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, just 7 km from the footbridges, we will take a boat to cross Lago Rico and, after sailing for 20 minutes, we will disembark on the opposite shore. Starting early in the morning, we head towards the heart of Lago Argentino, where we will embark on an exciting navigation to the bottom of the South Arm.

Upon disembarking, an unforgettable walk to the serene Frías Lake awaits us. After a gentle ascent, we will reach the natural viewpoint, from where we can marvel at the panoramic views of Lake Frías and its surroundings before descending towards its shore.

We will board the Fitzcarraldo boat to sail through the crystalline waters of a dazzling emerald tone, sailing 5 km to the other shore. From there, we will begin a 6 km trek through the Frías River valley, getting closer and closer to the imposing glaciers.

Along the way we will witness a landscape in constant change, surrounded by majestic Grande, Cubo and Dickson glaciers, which spill their ice towards the Frías Superior Lagoon. We will have lunch on the shores of the Frías Superior Lagoon if the wind conditions allow it.

El Calafate, popularly called «Calafate», is a city located on the southern shore of Lake Argentino, in the Patagonia region, in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina, about 80 km from the Perito Moreno glacier. It is the head of the department Lago Argentino.

Lago Argentino (Pass by)

Navigation to the bottom of the South Arm of Lake Argentino, further and further into the Andes Mountains. Upon disembarking, the walk to Frías Lake begins, which can only be accessed on foot.

Los Glaciares National Park (Pass by)

Board the Fitzcarraldo boat to navigate 5 km through crystalline waters of surprising emerald color. From the other shore begins a 6 km trek through the valley of the Río Frías. As one approaches the last moraine, the glaciers begin to look closer and closer. A pristine area of Los Glaciares National Park with a valley of changing environments that ends in an amphitheater, made up of the Grande, Cubo and Dickson glaciers. The glaciers shed their ice towards the Upper Frías Lagoon (Big and Cube) and the Dickson Arm (Dickson Glacier) but originally they were all part of one large glacier: the Frías.

It is an activity of medium to high physical demand, aimed at those travelers who want to travel paths through native forests and mountain rivers, with unique views of the glaciers and hills of El Chaltén

Once in El Chaltén, at approximately 08:30 hs., a short stop is made for those who wish to go to the bathroom before starting the march. A second trekking guide will accompany the group during the hike.

Those who hesitate to continue with the second section, much more demanding than the first, will continue the journey with one of the two guides as GROUP 2 to the beautiful Laguna Capri, another of the must-see attractions of El Chaltén. There you have lunch before continuing the descent to El Chaltén.

GROUP 1 continues the journey with one of the guides through the Poincenot Base Camp area, crosses the bridge over the White River, and from there begins to gain height quickly. In total, you climb about 430 meters of elevation for almost 3 km. until you reach the climax: the Lagoon of the Three.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After pickup at your hotel in central El Calafate, relax and enjoy the views during your trip in an air-conditioned minivan or coach. During the 30-minute ride to the Walichu Caves through seemingly untouched wilderness, get an orientation to the region from your guide.

Arrive at Walichu Caves on the shore of the pale blue Lago Argentino. Walk down the forest trail to the caves, where you will see ancient rock paintings of animals and humans, as well as some recreations. Next, drive back to El Calafate for a panoramic sightseeing tour. Drive past the early 20th-century buildings and homes built by its first settlers, as well as the main plaza, church and other landmarks as your guide details the towns early beginnings.

Finish at the El Calafate Historical Intepretation Center. Explore this informative museum independently (own expense) and uncover the areas history, wildlife and geology. See the bones of dinosaurs that roamed here millennia ago, and trace the formation of Patagonias glaciers and story of the Tehuelche peoples who lived here for centuries before the arrival of colonizers.

Either end your tour here to stay on at the museum cafe or souvenir shop, or finish your trip with a hotel drop-off.

An ideal tour for people who enjoy the outdoor and Adventure, ready to discover new places. Average fitness is required because the tour includes a hike of 3 hours. Traveling from El Calafate through Provincial Route N°5 and then the National Route 40. You arrive to The Argentino Lake, the Santa Cruz river and the beautiful valley of La Leona River with the most impressive view of the Andes including the Cerro Fitz Roy. Then you visit the historical site of Hotel La Leona, and continue 10 km along the southern shore of Lake Viedma until Cerro Los Hornos (Estancia Santa Teresita). You start to explore the Petrified Forest, along the Great Depression and began your exploration walk among fossils. Halfway you stop for lunch. Throughout the walk you will see a lots of petrified logs lying on the surface, some with a diameter of 1.20 meters. Testimony to ancient times where the climate was very different from today and allowed the support of abundant flora and large dimensions.

From El Calafate we'll begin our ascent to the Huyliche mountain range. The journey starts by traversing the slopes of the Calafate Stream Canyon, where we'll have the opportunity to spot native wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, hares, loicas, bandurrias, caranchos, and falcons, among other species. We'll then continue along the winding uphill path surrounded by erratic blocks, remnants of the glaciers' erosive power, until we reach the First Balcony.

We will go to the upper balconies where we will find the view of the Andes Mountains, the Patagonian Continental Ice and all the arms of Lake Argentino. The location of the Balconies overlooking the condor nests makes it an ideal spot to admire the majestic flight of the Andean Condor, the largest bird in Continental Patagonia.

The route begins northwest aboard the Maria Turquesa Cruise, passing through Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo - the narrowest pass of the lake, with a width of approximately 800 meters. After two hours of navigation, the succession of icebergs of the most varied colors and shapes announces the proximity of the Spegazzini glacier and disembarcation at Puesto de Las Vacas - Spegazzini Canal bay - coordinated walk by our team of guides, with a view of the old Stall of settlers. Recognition of flora and fauna. Visit to the Upsala canal, navigation to the Herminita Peninsula - limit allowed by National Parks - panoramic view of the glacier.

1: El Calafate Historical Interpretation Center

The visit to the Interpretation Center CALAFATE is an experience of immersion in the past, the articulator is the passage of time. In the two hours that you will use to visit the museum, the tools used as graphics, videos and bone montages will guide you to gain a better understanding of the Patagonian past.

Know the true history of Southern Patagonia because knowing the history of the place enriches your trip. During your tour you will learn interesting facts about the 100 million-year history featuring dinosaur skeletons and mega mammals that were unique in the area as well as the glacier process and ecological transformations of the Pleistocene that were part of the Tehuelche culture.

The museum is open everyday from 10:00am - 8:00pm. Translation options are available in Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese.
