At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river; rapids form again, peaking at high tide. A 8.5-metre (28-foot) tide cycle is roughly 12.5 hours.

Youll start the exploration by following your guide to Prince William Street. This well-known strip, once considered the Wall Street of Canada has long been known to have one of the best collections of Victorian-era architecture in the country. Proceed down King Street to Market Slip, a site where Loyalist settlers from the United States first arrived in the late 18th century. Also along King Street are the 225th Anniversary Clock, Barbours General Store, and the Policemans Museum.
Continue past Trinity Church, a religious structure built in Gothic style, and head to Kings Square to to visit an authentic 19th-century country general store. This square is a leafy green space covered in elm trees and begonias is also home to the Imperial Theatre from 1913 and one of the worlds only two-tiered bandstands. Leave the square and continue to City Market, a center of commerce that survived a large fire in 1877.

Learn the history of the buildings along Prince William Street. Discover why King Street is so interesting. Visit Barbours General Store, an authentic 18th century general store. Swing by the Kings Square Bandstand to listen to the local talent or just take in the beauty of the square. Head over to Loyalist Burial Ground, the resting place of several of Saint Johns first British settlers.
Before heading back to the ship, take a tour of the majestic Imperial Theater and then stop to explore the sights and smells in the Old City Market. Chat with local folks as they buy fresh produce in an oldest continually operated market in Canada, built in 1876.
