Day 2: Lima In the afternoon, a trip to the essential Lima, known as The City of Kings, starting at the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, and passing along a “huaca” or sacred pre-Inca site, before heading to the Historic Center. There, you will walk along some of the most historically important streets of the city, leading to the Plaza de Armas, where you will have some time to take pictures of the amazing colonial architecture that surrounds it. You will also have the chance to take a peek into an iconic building, that has served Lima’s citizens for centuries and continues to be an important landmark. Then you will visit the impressive Convent of Santo Domingo, an astonishing building with colonial style. Day 3: Nazca Lines Early in the morning, transfer to the bus station to board the special bus service to Paracas (4 hrs. approx.). Arrival and assistance to be transferred to the local airport. Overflight of the Nazca Lines (Half day tour) Upon arrival at the Pisco airfield (Paracas), you will board the plane that will fly over the incredible Nazca Lines, located on the pampas of the same name. There, you can see the many geoglyphs, which represent figures of animals and stylized plants, which are distributed among a huge labyrinth of straight, trapezoids, triangles and spirals, engraved on the earth and preserved for about 2,000 years. Day 4: Ballestas Islands You will take a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands, where you can see thousands of birds, sea lions and seals in their natural environment. The famous Candelabra design, a figure of the Nazca culture engraved in the desert, can also be seen from the boat. Day 5: Cuzco After being picked up from the hotel in Lima and taken to the airport, embark your flight from Lima into the Capital of the Inca Empire - Cuzco. Upon arrival to Cuzco you will be received at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the morning is free to rest and get acclimatized to the altitude. In the afternoon, you will visit the city of Cusco, known as the Imperial City and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you will start your tour at the iconic San Pedro market, a local market where you can explore the colors, flavors and traditions of modern Cusco. The visit continues with the Koricancha Temple, an ancient Inca palace and cult center of the Sun God, above which the order of the Dominicans built a church, which remains standing to this day. You will continue ascending to the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. Afterwards, you will explore Q’enqo archeological site, where important Inca ceremonies took place. Finally, you will arrive to the Plaza de Armas (main square), where you will visit the Cathedral, the most important temple in the city. Day 6: Sacred Valley In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Cuzco and driven towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will visit Chinchero, a small and picturesque town that houses an important Inca archaeological center built at the end of the 15th century, as well as a beautiful and traditional church. Then you will visit the home of a local family where you can appreciate how they have preserved the traditional Andean spinning and weaving techniques and where they will also show you how they get the bright colors for their looms naturally. Then, on the way to Ollantaytambo, you will stop at the Racchi viewpoint, where you will have some of the best views of the Sacred Valley. Afterwards, lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most representative architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire and one of the few places where the Spanish conquerors lost an important battle. Well known for its platforms, Ollantaytambo was a very effective fortress that also served as a temple. Finally, continue to the town of Ollantaytambo, known as “the only living Inca city”; It is the best existing example of Inca urban planning, with stone streets that have been inhabited since the 12th century. Day 7: MachuPicchu Early in the morning you will be transferred to the train station. You will visit one of the world`s most famous landmarks: the citadel of Machu Picchu. The excursion begins on board the train. Upon your arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will begin your ascent to Machu Picchu, where, surely, you will live one of the most unforgettable experiences. Once there, you can walk through every corner of one of the Seven Wonders of the world, accompanied by an expert guide, and enjoy free time to explore the area. PLEASE NOTE: The maximum period to stay in Machu Picchu citadel is no longer than 4hrs. Once you leave, it is forbidden to re-enter the citadel, even if you are within the 4 hours stipulated. After the tour, descend to Aguas Calientes and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Your ride back to Cuzco will consist on the return train ride to Ollanta onboard the Expedition and a ground transfer from Ollanta train station to your hotel in Cuzco. Overnight in Cuzco.
