How do I get to Netanya?

The closest airport to Netanya is the Bean Gurion airport in Tel Aviv which is located 54 miles away from the city and takes around 45 minutes by car, or taxi. There are trains, shuttles, taxis and rental cars at the airport.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have a few options from the airport to your hotel in Netanya. There are trains at the airport that depart from Level G in Terminal 3 (on the Arrival’s level) There are two trains every hour from 6 am until 12 am and one train every hour from 12 am until 6 am. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines and the train ride takes around 40 minutes to reach Netanya. Keep in mind trains and most transportation stop running on Friday afternoons until Saturday evenings due to Shabbat.

There are taxis at the airport with taxi stands located on the ground level of Terminal 3, a taxi will cost approximately 200NIS. Uber and Gett are alternatives to taxis in Tel Aviv where you order your ride through the company`s app. Simply download Uber or Gett from your smartphone and enter in your pickup and drop-off destination, payment is processed via credit card on the app.

There are several international rental car agencies such as Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Sixt which can be found at the airport. The car rental reservation desks are located inside the arrivals hall.

How do I get from the train and bus station to my hotel?

Netanya’s train station has connections from Tel Aviv and Haifa, the station is just outside of the city center and not really within walking distance. There is a car rental agency close by as well as buses and taxis available to reach your hotel. The Netanya “Beit Yehoshua” train station is located in the southern part of the city and more conveniently located in the city center.

The Central Netanya Bus Station is located in the downtown area about 10 minutes from the beach, the station is served by buses from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other cities. There are some taxis outside the station or the city center hotels and beach hotels that may be reached on foot.

How do I get around by public transportation?

The main forms of transportation in Netanya are buses and taxis. Buses travel to all the suburbs and several express buses operate between Netanya and Jerusalem. Buses no. 601 and 605 leave Netanya to Tel Aviv every 15 minutes throughout the day until 7 pm, the last bus departs at 11 pm.

Should I rent a car in Netanya?

You can rent a car in Tel Aviv and travel to Netanya which would make the 54-mile journey more enjoyable and you can make stops along the way and take in the passing scenery. The main coastal highway is Hwy.2 which connects Tel Aviv and Haifa, Hwy.4 is the wider highway that runs parallel and runs inland, Netanya can be reached from both Hwy. 3 and 4.

How do I call/hail a taxi?

Taxis are available in the city 24 hours a day, they can be found in the city center around the train and bus stations or called and ordered over the phone.

Is Netanya a walking city?

Walking around the small downtown area of the city is easily done. The impressive Netanya Square is a popular area in the city, the fountains are a gathering place for families with children, and the fountains run day and night when colorful lights fill the water. Netanya’s main attractions are the beautiful beaches which are perfect for a morning stroll and a romantic sunset romantic walk to soak up the sand, sea, and views.

Can I ride a bike in Netanya?

There are bicycle rentals available in Netanya from many different locations. There is a bike park located along highway 57 in the middle of an old industrial zone covering 4 hectares, with bicycle rental points. The tracks here are also available for a leisurely ride, as well as racing and professional cyclist opportunities.

Is Netanya a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Netanya is a very safe destination for tourists with crimes against visitors being very rare. Although the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is ongoing, most travelers will see few sights of it aside from Israeli soldiers going about their business. There is no need for travelers to take any further precautions when traveling here other than common sense in a foreign country. Be aware of pickpockets in crowded areas especially on board public transport. Keep your valuables close, be aware of your surroundings, and don’t wander around alone at night. If you rent a car be sure to take extra precautions and lock your vehicle and remove any valuables.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

Shopping opportunities in Netanya are endless with interesting and memorable experiences at shopping centers, specialized stores, souvenir shops, craft studios, and a spectacular vibrant market. Kiryat Sapir is one of the main shopping areas in the city the most popular shopping mall with brand-name clothing and stores, jewelry and perfume stores, and a large supermarket. There are several restaurants and bars as well as a children’s playground at the mall.

The Herzl Pedestrian Mall and the Krause Pedestrian mall offer a great variety of stores as well as local coffee shops, dining options, and other entertainment. Herzl Street is a pedestrianized area in the main city square with plenty of shopping and restaurants to explore. The Netanya Market located on Weizman Street and Netanya Flower market is beautiful bustling market in the city great for picking up unique items such as food, seasonal produce, oriental sweets and spices, and vibrant flowers. The city of Netanya is famous for its rich fruit plantations and exquisite diamond processing with many wonderful jewelry stores scattered throughout the city.

The Poleg area in the city is a popular shopping destination with high-quality clothing and shoes from local manufacturers at reasonable prices along with quality jewelry and unique authentic souvenirs. There are several large shopping centers in this neighborhood with some big seasonal sales held throughout the year, items during this time of year can be up to 50% off.

There are many of the famous Dead Sea products on offer in the city including cosmetics made with the famed Dead Sea salts and mud said to have amazing therapeutic benefits. Ahava and Premier are two of the most well-known brands sold here and the most expensive.

Where can I go to the beach in Netanya?

The coastal beach town of Netanya features 9 miles of beautiful beaches along with a gorgeous promenade and hotels that are dotted along the cliffside teeming with life and activities. Visitors from all over the world flock to these sandy shores to soak up the sun, sand, and seas with plenty of space to relax on the beaches and dip in the gorgeous warm Mediterranean seas. Considered to be part of the “Israeli Riviera” natural scenery and endless beaches make up this beautiful area with an upbeat and interesting city scene. Netanya has the longest stretch of coastline in the country and features a lively resort area scene with endless accommodations, dining options, shopping, and bustling nightlife.

There are several beaches that make up the Netanya coastline including Blue Bay Beach, Zanz Beach, Knot Beach, Amphi Beach, Herzel Beach, and the famous Poleg Beach to name a few. Poleg Beach features soft golden sands with the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean nestled on the southernmost coast of the city. There are plenty of facilities offered here such as umbrellas, beach chairs, snack shops, restrooms, basketball courts, watersports, gourmet restaurants, and a buffet. There are elevators to take beachgoers up and down the cliffs that back the beach here.

Tamnoon Beach is a great family beach featuring a playground with swings, slides, and interesting sculptures. The beach has many water sports activities including surfing and diving. Lagoon Baech is another great beach with spectacular scenic views, great for sunbathing and relaxing on the sands.

What is the language spoken in Netanya?

The official language spoken in Netanya is Arabic and Hebrew. Many people speak English especially in the service industry at hotels and restaurants, and many locals speak Italian. We recommend you get a good English-Hebrew guidebook and learn the common phrases such as hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and numbers 1-10.

What is the best time to visit Netanya?

Netanya is a wonderful year-round destination to visit with a pleasantly warm climate throughout the year. The temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit and the water remains comfortable for swimming even in the wintertime. The weather here is mostly sunny almost all year round a great destination for summer vacations and a place to soak up the hot summer weather on the beaches and get a tan.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The currency of Israel is the Israeli Shekel (NIS or ILS). You will need to exchange your currency for the Israeli Shekel, which can be done upon arrival at the airport currency exchange desks or banks and specialized stores called Foreign Exchange Bureaus.

What is the food like?

Netanya offers a great variety of excellent restaurants and dining options many of them are located along the beachfront strip and around Ha-Atzma’ut Square. There are restaurants, cafes, and markets that offer some delicious food including traditional Israeli and Arabic cuisine, pizzerias, regional fast food, and international cuisines. The variety of restaurants here is pretty impressive with great street food along with gourmet restaurants, visitors are stuck for choice.

According to local culinary traditions in Israel, it is customary to start your dining experience with a light appetizer, the most commonly served here are “hummus” and pita bread, or “Tahini”. Fish dishes are highly popular in the seaside resort town with sea bass being popular on menus in local restaurants as well as other seafood specialties and pickled tuna. Fish is cooked exclusively over an open fire. Jacko Restaurant serves up some exquisite seafood dishes with grilled shrimp and fish available and other interesting dishes such as mullet and other rare fish served with freshly baked focaccia and seasonal vegetables.

Uzi Hummus is one of the most unusual restaurants in the city attracting locals and visitors alike with a variety of interesting dishes on the menu made from regional products. There is a wood-burning oven here where popular traditional pastries are baked including dozens of different pies and buns, baklava, nut cookies, and caramel puddings. Crepes and Co Cafe is another great location to sample some delicious sweet treats and Dida or Gelatino Italiano for amazing ice cream.

What is the nightlife like?

There is a great variety of nightlife options in the seaside city of Netanya, there are plenty of beachfront restaurants, bars, and some nightclubs here. The embankment is the place to find the most popular establishments and regularly hosted national dance concerts. Ha-Atzma’ut Square is another bustling evening location alive with strollers, sippers, diners, and people-watching places with outdoor terrace seating to enjoy the warm evenings. The Shamrock Irish Pub features an original modern pub design with a rich selection of Irish whiskeys and a unique authentic atmosphere. Mercury Pub is a great place for a fun night out, a lively place popular with the young local crowd offering live shows with a variety of music and cold beverages in a laid-back atmosphere. HaSifriya Club offers themed programs along with live musical performances. The amphitheater in Gan Ha-Melekh Park hosts concerts and more weekly during the summer there are full-length films features along with classical and light music performances around sunset.
