The main airport servicing the city of Neuquen is the Presidente Peron Airport located 5 miles west of the city center.  How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

There are buses, taxis, and rental cars available at the airport. The tank rank is located outside the Arrivals hall. There are several international rental car agencies found at the airport, just look for the signs for rental cars. Bus line 28 travels from outside the airport at the bus station on San Martin Street to the city center. Buses are the main form of public transportation in Neuquen city. The Estacion Terminal de Omnibus de Neuquen is the main bus terminal with services that operate strictly within the city and long distances throughout the country. To travel by bus you must have a SUBE card which is available to purchase from kiosks in the bus terminal.  

There is a small train station in the city of Neuquen. The station is located in the city center, by Central Park in a historic building dating back to 1902. served by the Ferrosur Roca’s Zapala-Bahia Blanca freight service and the Tren del Valle commuter service. The commuter service connects Neuquen with the neighboring areas of Cipolletti, and Plottier. Freight services run to Bahia Blanca, and Zapala.  

If you plan to explore the remote surrounding areas of Neuquen and the surrounding sights and attractions then renting a car is a must. There are rental car agencies at the airport and some in the city center. The city is well linked to the National Route 22 which is the main long-distance highway passing through the city. 

There are plenty of taxis available in the city of Neuquen. They can be found throughout the city, especially outside the bus and train stations, main attractions, hotels, and restaurants. You can also call and order a taxi over the phone. 

It is possible to walk around the city of Neuquen. The city center is relatively small in size and walkable with many hotels, restaurants, shops, bars, and sightseeing within walking distance. There are many scenic walks in and around the city, and the surrounding landscapes are filled with hills and canyons. Some interesting paths along the Barda Hills which is north of downtown at the northern end of Avenida Argentina. There are some breathtaking views over the Neuquen River valley and the neighboring city of Cipolletti. There are some beautiful walks along the river and around the lake.

There are some great cycle paths available in Neuquen. The main one and the most important crosses the city from the bus station that borders the railway, crossing Central Park and stretching to the neighboring city of Cipolletti. There are also many thrilling possibilities for mountain biking in the region with some stunning views. 

Neuquen is considered a very safe destination to visit. However, due to its increased population and visitors over the recent years crimes against tourists are becoming more common with petty theft and muggings. Take the necessary precautions when sightseeing, use common sense, and keep your valuables out of sight from pickpockets, especially in crowded areas like markets, and tourist attractions.

There are some shopping areas in the city worth checking out when visiting. Shopping opportunities in the city include markets, malls, and centers where visitors can enjoy some retail therapy. Paseo de la Patagonia is a shopping mall open daily from 10-10, centrally located this expansive mall is the ultimate destination for combining shopping and leisure. It is easily accessible when exploring the city and boasts a number of retail stores including international brands to unique local boutiques. On top of shopping the mall offers a great selection of dining options that range from quick eats to sit-down restaurants dishing up local delicacies or international cuisine. There is also a cinema at the mall and other entertainment options. The Feria de Artesanos is a popular local craft market located on Argentina Avenue every weekend Friday-Sunday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. It is the largest market in Argentine Patagonia with hundreds of stalls selling everything from food to souvenirs, house goods, crafts, and more. 

The official languages spoken in Neuquen are Spanish and English. Many people speak fluent English, especially in hotels and restaurants. We recommend getting a good Spanish guidebook and learning the basic questions like please, thank you, and numbers 1-10.

Neuquen features a variety of climates due to its highly varied relief; high mountain arid, steppe arid, humid, and nival. The city is situated far enough away from the Atlantic Coast and the Pacific Ocean, and protected by the Andes Mountain ranges which block the moisture from the Pacific. The average annual temperature ranges between 57 and 59 degrees. If you want to try something different, the Pacu fish is delicious as long as the human-like teeth don't unnerve you. Alfajor de Maicena (dulce de leche cookies) is another Argentine favorite. Malbec wine makes a great complement to every steak meal.
