Day 1 in the Osa Peninsula

Welcome to the magically biodiverse Osa Peninsula! Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and head out to see the city! There is so much for you to see and do!

We recommend you get acquainted with the area. Take a stroll around the tranquil Drake Bay or Puerto Jimenez (main tourist towns on the peninsula) grab some lunch at one of the restaurants and sit outside to absorb the stunning tropical surroundings. Both towns have local beaches where you can take a walk along the soft white sands, sunbathe and swim in the glistening blue waters.

Take a kayak tour over the blue-green calm waters, through the maze of mangrove rivers found in the amazing Golfo Dulce `sweet gulf`. This is one of the best locations to kayak on the Peninsula, paddle under the rainforest canopy where you can witness an abundance of wildlife including seabirds, fish, dolphins, and whales.

Snorkeling is another great activity in the beautiful tranquil waters that encircle the peninsula. Try snorkeling off the main beaches in Osa and swim above vibrant coral and tropical fish.

Birdwatching is fantastic in the Osa Peninsula with over 300 species of birds to be seen. Visitors can take a bird watching tour out around Puerto Jimenez where you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful and rare birds in the area.

Take a horseback ride along the beach around sunset. Trot along the serene beaches backed by the magnificent lush verdant rainforest brimming with wildlife. Take in the sensational sunset and enjoy dinner at an open-air restaurant on the beach where you can dine on freshly caught fish and sip guava.

Day 2 in the Osa Peninsula

Start your day bright and early with a fresh cup of Costa Rican coffee and some breakfast to fuel you for your big adventure today to the Corcovado National Park. This is the gem of the Osa Peninsula and the largest park found in Costa Rica covering 127,000 acres of lush dense rainforest. It was named `the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity` by National Geographic.

Visitors to the National Park must be accompanied by a guide, there are a few different access points that can be reached via hiking, by boat or by chartered plane! The park is home to a wide array of Costa Rican wildlife including monkeys, tapirs, anteaters, wild cats, sloths, crocodiles, and peccaries (to name a few). Witness vibrant scarlet macaws flying through the jungle canopy, hear the howler monkeys screeching in the treetops, witness a critically endangered tapir sleeping amongst the forest floor and catch a glimpse of countless animals that call the forest home.

There are many different trails that take you through the expansive park with many different areas to explore and beautiful natural surroundings with picture perfect opportunities. Trek through diverse flora and fauna to one of the pristine hidden jungle waterfalls. Cool off in the cascading waters and take some once in a lifetime photos. Enjoy a picnic by the waters and bask in this breathtaking environment.

There are several beautiful beaches found on the edge of the National Park. Corcovado Beach is a picturesque stretch of fine white sand lined by the sparkling Pacific Ocean. Find a shaded spot underneath the swaying trees and bask in the beauty of this remote area. Take a dip and cool off in the refreshing waters which are the perfect spot for swimming and snorkeling.

Enjoy dinner while watching the sunset at one of the local restaurants found in town. Then make your way back to Corcovado for an exciting night tour.

Spend your evening exploring the jungle! Guided night tours are available in the National Park and offer a completely different experience than exploring during the day. There is so much more wildlife to see at night when many of the nocturnal animals come out to eat. Expect to see many insects and different species of frogs, including poisonous dart frogs, snakes, lizards, and birds.

Day 3 in the Osa Peninsula

Today take an excursion to the magical uninhabited Cano Island situated just 10 miles west of the Osa Peninsula on the Punta Llorona Coast. Enjoy the boat ride that departs from Drake Bay, and arrive at the Biological Reserve, which is a world-class diving destination. This spectacular island is surrounded by vibrant coral reefs and one of the most magical and diverse underwater worlds in Costa Rica. Spend your morning in the crystal clear blue waters where you can swim with assortments of colorful fish, dolphins, rays, sharks, whales, and turtles.

Spend some time exploring the island on foot, there are many walking trails brimming with foliage and wildlife on the island. One of the trails leads to a spectacular viewpoint and to the world famous pre-Columbian spheres nestled deep in the jungle.

Make your way to Matapalo for the afternoon, this area is home to three gorgeous beaches backed by the lush green jungle, a surfers haven! Cabo Matapalo sits on the tip of the Osa Peninsula boasting a secluded shoreline that is great for surfing and other watersports. Chill out on the beach and bask in the sunshine and enjoy the tropical turquoise waters filled with marine life.

Watch a spectacular sunset beachside with a cocktail and visit the quaint beach town of Cabo Matapalo for a delicious Caribbean dinner. After dinner, enjoy a stroll around town and stop in for some drinks and dancing at one of the local bars.

Additional Days in the Osa Peninsula

If you are able to spend additional days in the Osa Peninsula, spend a day fishing off the shores of Drake Bay where 40 world records have been achieved and countless fish including Black Marlin, Wahoo, Sailfish, and Mahi can be caught.

Take a chocolate tour to Rancho Raices, take a tour of this organic farm and sample exotic fruits and vegetables, learn step by step how they make chocolate and enjoy some samples.

Take a whale and dolphin watching tour on the tranquil waters of Golfo Dulce where humpback whales can be seen from December to April and July to November. The largest fish species is the whale shark which can also be seen here from April to May along with several dolphin species in pods of 100 or more playing in the waters.

Your Last Day in the Osa Peninsula

Depart from your hotel to the airport for your return flight home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer to the airport if so the representative will meet you at your hotel with plenty of time to get you to the airport for your flight out.
