How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The U-Tapao International Airport (often referred to as Pattaya Airport) is Pattaya`s airport located 20.5 miles away from the city center in Rayong. The journey from the airport to downtown Pattaya takes around 45 minutes by road.

If you have not booked a private transfer through us the easiest way to reach the city from the airport is via a taxi, there are buses and rental cars available.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

There are several ground transportation options available from the U-Tapao International Airport to connect passengers to downtown Pattaya. Taxis are readily available and reasonably priced, they can be found outside the airport arrivals hall. There are buses available and a service desk for more information and tickets can be found by the terminal exit. Rental cars are available and the drive to Pattaya from the airport takes around 45 minutes, there are international companies available such as Avis and Sixt along with Thai Rent A Car.

How do I get from the train station to my hotel?

The Pattaya Railway Station is the main railway station located on Th Sukhumvit, 1.86 miles away from the center of Pattaya. The station is 96.4 miles away from Bangkok Railway Station, it is well connected to Bangkok by rail and very economical, the journey takes a 2 ½ hour journey between the cities. There are songthaews found outside the train station to take travelers to downtown for around 30 Baht.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

There are several forms of transportation to get around in Pattaya including taxis, motorcycle taxis, buses, and songthaews. Taxis are rare but can be found outside of some of the bigger hotels or have your hotel call and order one by phone. There are minibusses offered that transport visitors between Jomtien and Pattaya beaches costing around 20 Baht and running every few minutes. Songthaews also known as `Baht Buses` are the most popular form of transportation in Pattaya and can be found almost anywhere, hundreds are roaming the streets. They follow standard routes and cost between 10-50 Baht depending on the distance. Public buses run through Pattaya and service the main areas including Jomtien and Naklua for around 20 Baht for a one-way ticket. The bus terminal is located on Pattaya Nuea Road. There is a Beach Bus that runs a circle line through Pattaya costing 30 Baht, the bus stops at several places of interest including the Pattaya Floating Market, Jomtien Beach, Dolphin Roundabout and Pattaya Beach Road. A quick ride on a motorcycle taxi can transport one passenger for around 30 Baht or can be hired for about 200 Baht per day.

How do I call/hail a taxi in Pattaya?

There are a very limited amount of metered taxis in the city, which can sometimes be found outside hotels, shopping malls, and other locations. Most of the cabbies found in Pattaya are from Bangkok and looking for travelers to take back to the city. Be sure to negotiate a rate, as mostly all metered taxi drivers refuse to use their meters.

Although taxis are not very prevalent in Pattaya, the Grab Taxi App is an easy and convenient way to book a taxi. The Grab app is just like Uber where you use the app on your phone to order a vehicle to pick you up at the entered location and you pay for the ride right through your phone.

Can I get around by boat in Pattaya?

There is a fast catamaran service offered from Pattaya to Hua Hin across the Gulf of Thailand. The service is operated by Royal Ferry Group and the journey takes around 2 hours and costs approximately 1250 Baht with one service a day at 1 pm.

There are charters in Pattaya that offer boat tours along with yacht charters and fishing trips. There are also day trips offered to the popular offshore islands including Ko Larn, a snorkeling paradise which name translates to `Coral Island`. Ferries depart for the outlying islands from Bali Hai Pier and speedboat companies offer quick 15 minute rides from along Beach Road.

Where can I go to the beach in Pattaya?

Pattaya is a popular beach destination situated on the coast of Thailand. Pattaya and Jomtien are two of the main beaches in the city offering visitors and an array of activities including water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, banana boat rides, jet-skiing, windsurfing, and paragliding. The Khao Pattaya Viewpoint is a small hilltop situated just south of Pattaya Beach, one of the best locations to get a bird`s eye view of the city and the bay. It is a great location to visit at sunset where the sacred Wat Kho Phra Bat Temple is found.

Is Pattaya a walking city?

Walking around the beach city of Pattaya is one of the great ways to explore your surroundings and get familiar with the city. The city is relatively small with different places to walk around including the Walking Street Market, Pattaya Beach Road, Pattaya Floating Market, and Jomtien Beach which have plenty to offer tourists. Walking around allows visitors to soak in the beachside atmosphere and explore the beautiful surroundings.

Can I ride a bike in Pattaya?

Riding a bicycle around the beachside streets of Pattaya is a fun way to get around and explore the beaches, markets, restaurants, and shops found in town. The main beach area of Pattaya including several interesting sights and attractions is only about a mile long making it easy to explore on 2 wheels. In this area, there is an abundance of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, and clubs. Some hotels and guesthouses might offer bikes to their guests for use if not there are plenty of bike rental shops around town.

Is Pattaya a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Pattaya is not a dangerous city; there are very few incidents of violence, theft or harassment and tourist police do well maintaining the safety of the city. Travelers should still be cautious just as in any other city in the world, be aware of pickpockets in tourist areas and certain scam artists. Keep your bags and belongings close to you, especially at night.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

The shopping opportunities in Pattaya are varied with giant plush shopping malls to floating markets. There is a wide range of options that offer travelers and shoppers an extensive selection of good to purchase while visiting Pattaya.

The Four Regions Floating Market is a traditional Thai market where shoppers can experience an authentic and unique shopping experience onboard man-powered boats. The market features 114 shops, stalls and water vendors that sell souvenirs, arts, crafts and clothing along with delicious food.

Central Festival Mall is a massive mall and building that dominates the Pattaya Beach skyline boasting designer brands and high fashion along with a movie theater, bowling alley, a 3D Haunted House along with bountiful food options.

There is an abundance of markets found throughout the city offering all kinds of goods, many of the markets have delicious street food vendors serving delicious freshly cooked cuisine. A few of the markets are Night Markets which offer a bustling, authentic atmosphere and Thai market experience.

The Gem Factory is the largest of its kind found in Pattaya with a variety of gems and beautifully designed jewelry on sale made from precious and semi-precious stones. The factory features a toy train that takes visitors on tours to explore the collection of gems found at the on-site museum.

What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?

The Thai Baht is the currency used in Pattaya and you will need to exchange your dollars to Baht. Try to avoid major banks and popular tourist areas as you tend to get the worst exchange rates.

What is the food like?

The bustling city of Pattaya offers many exciting restaurants serving up a wide range of delicious cuisine including fresh fish and seafood, authentic Thai food, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Italian and Western dishes.

Thai cooking classes are available and conducted daily in the city, this is an extremely fun experience with a visit to the local market to pick up ingredients, then preparing them with the help of local chefs and enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Many of the restaurants in Pattaya can be found situated along Beach Road offering outdoor seating with spectacular views of the beach and ocean and a vibrant atmosphere. There is an abundance of restaurants and eateries also found along Walking Street which is where the nightly market takes place which is also brimming with street food and some interesting delicacies including ostrich meat and baked crocodile.

What is the nightlife like?

Pattaya features a pretty epic nightlife scene filled with beer bars, go-go bars, host bars, and massage parlors combined make an electrified nightlife hub. Much of this nightlife is offered along the popular Walking Street, which is teased as the red-light district of Pattaya, wandering the street to discover the many hidden delights is an experience in itself. There are even more sleazy bars found in Soi 6. The city also boasts the largest gay scene in Asia based around Boyztown, Sunee Plaza, and the Jomtien Complex which are filled with vibrant cabaret shows.

I don`t speak Thai will there be many people who speak English?

The official language spoken in Thailand is Thai, however, English is widely spoken by people working in the service and tourism industries. We recommend that you get a good English-Thai guidebook and familiarize yourself with a few common phrases, such as hello, goodbye, please and thank you, excuse me and numbers 1-10.
