How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

The main airport servicing the city of Perth is the Perth Airport located approximately 6.2 miles east of the central business district. The airport features four terminals and offers transportation options into the city of Perth via taxis, buses, and rental cars.

What types of transportation can I find at the airport?

If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have a few options for connecting to the city of Perth from the airport. Taxis are available outside the terminals, simply follow the signs for the taxi ranks and taxi fares vary based on duration and destination, but generally cost around A$50 one way to the CBD. The main companies are Black and White Taxis (tel. 13 10 08), and Swan Taxi (tel. 13 13 30).

Rideshare options such as Uber, DiDi, and Ola are available at the airport with dedicated pickup areas located at all terminals. Rideshare pick up bays are found within walking distance of each terminal, follow the directions in the app and terminal signage to the nearest pickup bay.

Buses are available to transport passengers to the city center, Transperth bus lines 40, 380 and 935 connect the airport to the city. Bus stops are available outside Terminals 3 and 4 that travel to Elizabeth Quay Bus Station, stopping at various destinations along the way such as Victoria Park Transfer Station, Burswood Train Station, Belmont Forum Shopping Center, and Elizabeth Quay Bus Station. Tickets cost approximately A$4,50 for adults and run from 4:30 am until 11:30 pm with buses departing every 30 minutes.

There are several major rental car companies available at the airport including Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, Thrifty, and Avis. There are rental car counters located in every terminal.

How do I get around the city using public transportation?

Public transportation in Perth is made up of trains, buses, and ferries operated by Transperth linking the city center and in the rural areas, service is provided by Transwa. There are 70 railway stations and 15 bus stations in the city. There are Transperth InfoCenters located at the Perth train station and a few locations in the city where timetables, fares, and services are available.

There are zero-fare bus and train trips offered in the city of Perth with trips around the city center which is known as the `Free Transit Zone` and includes four high-frequency CAT bus routes. The buses are air-conditioned and come in different colors with the distinctive cat logo, buses run every 10 minutes on various routes connecting major facilities and attractions.

Trains in the city connect visitors across the city and the surrounding suburbs, the free transit zone within the city center is offered on trains traveling in the area between City West, Elizabeth Quay, and Claisebrook stations. You must have a SmartRider card to take advantage of the free fare zone. Elizabeth Quay Station and Perth Station are the main train stations in the city.

Perth offers a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus the `Perth Explorer` which is a great way to see the city`s main attractions. Some of the popular attractions where the bus stops include Perth Cultural Center and Optus Stadium.

What is the smart rider pass?

The SmartRider card can be used on public transport buses, trains, and ferries in the city of Perth. The card entitles you to a fare discount and a daily maximum spend. The cards can be purchased at Transperth InfoCentres and SmartRider retail outlets, simply load the card with some money (A$10 minimum) and use it on public transport in the city. Tap the card on the reader to start your ride and tap when you disembark.

There can be extended wait times during peak hours (5 am-9 am weekdays and weekend evenings) other than that taxis are plentiful. Taxis can be found all over the city, especially outside the main train and bus stations as well as outside hotels and main attractions or ordered over the phone. Taxi fares are regulated by the state government and the flag fall rate is A$3.90 during the weekdays and increases to A$5.70 on weeknights and weekends, the rate is A$1.59 per 0.62 miles and increases by A$0.10 increments. There are surcharges on designated holidays and weekend nights from midnight to 5 am.

Ubers are becoming more popular in the city of Perth with up to 50% cheaper rates than most taxis, they can be limited in certain locations. Simply download the Uber app on your smartphone and book a taxi.

Is Perth a walking city?

Is Perth a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?

Perth is a remarkably safe destination to visit; just use caution when walking alone and be aware of your surroundings. The crime rate is relatively low and crimes against visitors are practically unheard of but petty theft such as pickpocketing and purse snatching is becoming more common in the built-up areas. Keep your wits about you and practice street smarts when out sightseeing.

What are some popular areas for shopping?

The city of Perth offers some great shopping opportunities with major international luxury brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry along with local Western Australian boutiques both found along King`s Street and Hay Street in the heart of the city. Hay Street and Murray Street both offer pedestrian-only malls and are the location of most of the retail shopping in the city. The place to go for unique boutique shopping is in the city center adjacent to Northbridge and the trendy suburbs of Mount Lawley, Leederville and Subiaco. The historically significant Fremantle Markets date back to 1897 offering over 150 independent stalls and are offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.

Perth boasts a temperate Mediterranean climate with average daily high temperatures of 88 degrees and lows around 64 in the summertime which is December through March. The summers can be hot and temperatures can soar into the triple digits. Wintertime is dry and can be colder and wetter with daily average highs around 65 degrees and lows around 46 degrees with the most rain from May to September. The best time to visit Perth is either the spring or autumn months, spring from September to November is a particularly beautiful time of year and provides the perfect climate for sightseeing and exploring the sprawling Kings Park is blanketed with famous wildflowers.

What is the food like?

There is a wide range of different food options in the city of Perth including European and Asian cuisine along with a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood. Visitors can sample delicious fish and chips down at the Fisherman`s Wharf in Fremantle, which is also famous for its cappuccino strip that is lined with quaint cafes. There are plenty of trendy restaurants found in `Freo` along with lots of options by the beach and some great markets. Northbridge is another area with a variety of restaurants available, this is a busy neighborhood on the weekends and Victoria Park features a long stretch of restaurants along Albany Hwy with some high-quality restaurants.

Chilli Mussels are a popular specialty made of cooked mussels in a tomato and chili jus. Truffles are grown in the surrounding Mundaring and Manjimup areas. The Margaret River is about a 3-hour drive away and is known for its wine tasting and delicious fresh locally made food and produce. The Spring in the Valley Food and Wine Festival is held in Swan Valley.

What is the nightlife like?

The city of Perth is well known for its indie music scene which can be experienced at popular venues such as Amplifier Bar, Rosemount, Fly By Night, The Rocket Room, and Mojos. The city also has many festivals and raves along with DJs and electronic music artists. There are bars and clubs found throughout the city including the CBD, Northbridge, Subiaco, Victoria Park, and Fremantle. The bars can be very busy on Friday nights and the weekends with long lines to get into clubs.
