Outskirts

There are several outer neighborhoods that surround the downtown area of Queenstown where you will have easy access to the area with about a 15 minute walk to the center and also some peace and quiet away from the lively area of downtown at night. Glenorchy Road is filled with luxurious lodges, B&B`s and vacation rentals with spectacular lakeside views. Kingston Road features lodges nestled in the mountains with stunning surrounding scenery and views of the lake and The Gibbston Valley has a wide array of lodges set among the vineyards.

Downtown

The central business district or downtown area of Queenstown is a small, compact area that contains businesses, apartments, restaurants, bars, hotels, and shops. Airbnb rentals, hotels, backpacker hostels and rental apartments are all popular in the bustling district of downtown. Queenstown was named after two sheep shearers struck gold in the Shotover River and the gold rush town was said to be `fit for Queen Victoria`. Most of the surrounding attractions are within walking distance of the town center including Queenstown Beach, Queenstown Gardens, Wakatipu Lake, Beach Road and the mountains.

Arrowtown

The historic gold mining town of Arrowtown is located just 15 minutes away from downtown Queenstown. This quaint town features tree-lined streets, restored cottages, quaint cafes, fancy boutiques, bars, and restaurants. The peaceful town offers a range of luxurious accommodations, 3 superb golf courses, spas and plenty of activities along the Arrow River. Visit the Chinese miner`s village, the Lake District Museum and a spectacular place to enjoy the seasonal colors of the fall, The Arrowtown Autumn Festival is held in the last week of April to celebrate the town`s seasonal beauty and ambiance. Arrowtown is the originating point for many walks and hikes and cycling tracks with easy access to the Queenstown Trail, Macetown, and Motatapu tracks.
