Day 1 in Cameron Highlands

Welcome to the Cameron Highlands! Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check-in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!

We recommend you get acquainted with the city, strolling around the main town of Tanah Rata will give you an idea of what is on offer as far as food, shops, and other amenities. Here you can grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants, shop for necessities at the local grocery store and pick up some unique souvenirs at the stores.

The Cameron Highlands region is fantastic for hiking, the area is full of lush verdant forests some of which can be reached right from the town of Tanah Rata. Parit Falls is a beautiful hidden waterfall that can be found inside a recreational park in Taman Sedia, visitors can reach the falls by taking Track 4 from the side of the Century Pines Resort, which takes around a 15-minute walk to reach the waterfalls.

Thompson Falls is another picturesque waterfall set in a peaceful environment near Tanah Rata town center, a great place for nature lovers with refreshing waters in a pool where you can take a dip. The waterfall cascades down from a high point creating a relaxing sound, the falls are surrounded by lush greenery and there are some local shops and refreshments nearby so visitors can enjoy a picnic in the scenic area.

The entire area is so beautiful and spectacular, filled with forested hills that sweep down into the verdant valleys with mist-topped mountains, scenic waterfalls and never-ending sweeping views. There are many opportunities to enjoy in the region including visiting farms where you can pick delicious fresh strawberries, touring the famous tea estates and wandering around beautiful vibrant rose gardens.

The Bharat Tea Estate is located along the main road just past the main town of Tanah Rata in Cameron Valley. The estate boasts spectacular views over the vibrant valley, Bharat is the second largest tea producer in the Cameron Highlands established in 1933. The tea plantations here grow the signature brand of tea named `Cameron Valley`, the estate features two tea houses where tea and cakes can be enjoyed, audio/visual presentations, tours of the estate and a gift shop. There are a total of four tea gardens here that total 1,600 acres of lush, verdant hilly terrain.

After visiting some of the scenic outdoor areas just outside of town, find a cute cafe many of which are English themed in the region where you can sip on a cuppa and eat some divine cakes and desserts such as scones, strawberry jam, and clotted cream. Tea time is big in the Cameron Highlands and many of the eateries are set in spectacular surroundings with breathtaking views overlooking the hills.

Spend some time visiting Boh Tea Estate, nestled up in the hills of Brinchang boasting some of the most impressive vistas filled with lush verdant terraces and stunning scenic landscapes. This is the oldest tea plantation in the Cameron Highlands dating back to 1929, it is the most famous brands of tea in all of Malaysia. Here visitors can take tours of the plantation and witness the tea production, watch educational videos on the history of the estate and sample tea at the onsite cafe.

As evening time approaches spend some time at one of the local establishments and sample the Cameron Highlands signature dish, Steamboat Cuisine. This dish is said to be inspired by European fondue back in the olden days and consists of a large bowl of broth filled with a mixture of vegetables, meat, noodles, fish balls, and tofu. It is the perfect dish to enjoy after a day exploring the highlands.

The majority of restaurants can be found in the main town of Tanah Rata which offers a variety of cuisines including Chinese, Indian, Malay, and colonial English breakfasts and scones.

Day 2 in Cameron Highlands

Start your day in the highlands with a visit to the `Pasar Pagi`, which translates to morning market, and sample some delicious breakfast items, pick up fresh produce and other ingredients for a picnic lunch and buy some unique souvenirs.

Head out on two feet, put on your hiking boots and set out to explore what the Highlands are known for an abundance of scenic hiking trails through the verdant valleys, mountains, and forests that blanket the region. There are a total of 14 hiking trails that crisscross the highlands, it is the perfect place for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to get out and see some spectacular landscapes. There are several tour operators in the region offering different guided tours and hikes through the verdant jungle, soaring mountains, mossy forests, and different farms.

Explore the enchanting Mossy Forest, a spectacular natural environment that grows at the highest elevations of the Cameron Highlands. This mythical forest is nestled in the highlands of Mount Brinchang, the moist evergreen forest blanketed in low-level clouds and mist creating constant moisture which is an ideal biotope for moss, ferns, lichen, and orchids. There are many insects, frogs, snakes, and mammals that live in the forest. Take a walk along the 1.24-mile wooden boardwalk to the observation tower and ascend for some splendid views of the surrounding area. Find a shaded spot to sit and enjoy your picnic whilst soaking up the surroundings and zen atmosphere.

Mount Batu Brinchang is the second highest mountain in the Cameron Highlands soaring to 6,666 feet above sea level. The mountain can be accessed by car with easy road access up to the summit where a 49-foot tall observation tower which boasts great views over the highlands and the Titiwangsa Mountains. Hike or drive up the mountain through the jungle-like terrain, the hike is around 7.5 miles from the entrance which is found in Brinchang town.

On the latter part of your day choose from one of the many activities offered in the highlands including The Cameron Highlands Butterfly Garden at Kea Farm where butterflies are showcased roaming freely and fluttering around along with other insects and exotic plants and vibrant flowers. One of the main species here is the famous Rajah Brooke`s Butterfly which is Malaysia`s National Butterfly.

Strawberry picking is a big attraction in the highlands, the lush verdant valleys in the region are the prime location for growing large, juicy and delicious strawberries. Go strawberry picking at one of the farms in the local towns which are hydroponic strawberry cultivation sites producing delicious strawberries used to make strawberry jam and juice.

Robertson Rose Garden is located on a scenic hillside overlooking the highlands, the garden is famous for its beautiful vibrant flora along with tea and strawberries. There are a large number of species of roses on display including the Pink Queen Victoria, Scarlet, and Maid of Hearts. Stop in at the cute cafe on site for some delicious cakes and a cuppa and visit the gift shop for some unique souvenirs.

Spend your evening in one of the local British pubs where you can sit back enjoy a pint and some traditional pub grub along with live music and a cozy atmosphere.

Additional Days in Cameron Highlands

If you are able to spend additional days in Cameron Highlands and are visiting on the weekend spend some time at the Brinchang Night Market held on Friday and Saturday evenings serving up delicious local snacks and selling souvenirs. The market offers visitors a unique way to shop and is a great experience for visitors where fresh produce, teas, plants and street food can be found.

Your Last Day in Cameron Highlands

Depart from your hotel to the airport for your return flight home. We recommend that you purchase a private transfer to the airport if so the representative will meet you at your hotel with plenty of time to get you to the airport for your flight out.
