The true historical center of the city, inside the old city walls, is the best place to stay to admire the medieval character of the city`s architecture. It is almost exactly what you imagine an old Italian city to be like. Staying within the old town will allow you to be an easy walk of all the main attractions such as the Piazz del Campo, Piazza del Duomo and Forteza Medicea. The historic center is surrounded by its ancient ramparts constructed between the 14th and 16th centuries. These walls follow the contours of the three hills on which the city is built in. Close to the famous square are the residential areas of Siena. Since the city is relatively small, you will never be far from the city center, so do not hesitate to stay in the outskirts of the city center, especially if accommodations are too expensive within the center of town. Some of the outskirt neighborhhods include Tognazza, Belverde, Ascarello, Val di Pugna, Cerchiaia, Costalpio, Tolfe, etc. Staying in the outskirts also allows you to enjoy the beautiful green landscape of the area. Most of these hotels, or can be easily accessed by public transportation. We recommend checking with the specific hotels when booking a hotel in the outskirts of town.

Montepulciano is one of Tuscany`s prettiest medieval hill towns in southern Tuscany. Surrounded by vineyards, it is known for its vino nobile red wine, Renaissance buildings and beautiful churches. It is classy, romantic and rural at the same time, offering beautiful panoramic views from pretty much anywhere in town overlooking vineyards, farmland, and sprawling villas of the Val d`Orcia and Val di Chiana valleys.

Montepulciano is located between the Val d`Orcia and the Valdichiana, it is close to famous towns like Pienza, Montalcino, and Cetona. The hot springs of Chianciano Terme are close-by, and Lake Trasimeno is only about a half-hour away. Siena, Arezzo and Citta della Pieve are all in reach, Siena being the closest major city (about one hour and 15 minutes away).
